Should you read scripture"s end first, then beginning or first beginning then end?

Reading how Christ completed our world first, then what Christ completed is reading it backward, and it mixes people up. These same people wouldn't think of reading the last chapter of a book first, or skipping grade school because High School is more important.

The ideal way is to read the Old Testament, with an instructor who can relate each teaching to how Christ completed each thing as you read. I was lucky enough to find just such a man. He had devoted eight years to advanced study, just to be able to do this.

All the people who God gave us New Testament Scripture through had first learned all about the world in the Old Testament, so when they learned what Christ changed they knew what He changed, and how. Those people it was written to also had this background. Most people now spent their time learning about the new covenant first, so it takes a long time to see about an old covenant that, they feel, is best left entirely behind. They hear that OT said to kill animals for their blood, that the Old Testament talks of stoning people, that they were so dumb they thought statues were Gods, and all the law told them were things like not to steal from each other. Besides, some people spent 40 entire years roaming in the desert. Makes no sense to them. Yet, until they learn why and how of these things, the NT truths make no sense. Many posters express conclusions that are far from what God intended, simply out of ignorance.

The fact of the matter is that until you know how the world was and what exactly was changed, you really don't know Christ.

I have always started at Genesis and read through to Revelation. This last reading, I followed a chronological read through, which mixed in the appropriate prophet with the narratives. It made a lot more sense. I also read it once in the Hebrew order, when I was taking Old Testament Survey.

I think for a new Christian, or non-Christian, maybe read the 4 gospels first. But all Christians need to read the Bible from start to finish many times, to get a feel for the unfolding of events as God's story and plan is revealed.

YES!! READ THE NEW TESTMENT FIRST SO AS TO LEARN WHAT WE BELIEVERS HAVE NOW THEN READ THE OLD TESTMENT FOR OUR HISTORY WITH GOD.

I've always heard it's good to read the Gospel of John first. So I would concur with GRISMYS and suggest reading the New Testament first. But just read in the order you feel led, if applicable.

My parents started with the Old Testament. The creation. The fall.

It made more sense. Gave meaning to the rest.

Christ knew me before I knew Him. Before I knew Him, I knew Adam.

Very wise advice RedTent.... It takes so much time to learn the things of
the Lord. Years and years and we are still learning. Sadly with new watered
down teachings, or self -taught teaching, it is misleading our young.
Rome was not built in a day.... neither will our temple for the Holy Spirit be.

It is important, not only to read the OT to find a background for Christ, but to see how Christ fulfilled each thing. For instance, how does each of the sacrifices relate to how Christ is our sacrifice? Christ is our priest, what were the duties of the priest that Christ fulfilled? Why did God give the 613 laws, how do they relate to the fulfillment of the law that Christ gave?

We have people who read in the new Testament that everything in the Old Testament does not relate any more, for everything is made new. It is true that Christ fulfilled and gave us how to grow in the Lord, but we need a study of the Old Testament to understand just what Christ fulfilled and how.

It is written by an author and he intended you to go in order to get the story straight

psalms you can read randomly and proverbs
and the gospel are compilation of short stories but the rest you should read beginning to end or you wont catch the drift.

absolute best way to read bible. just open it up and start reading dont matter where you start donèt matter where you end just keep reading till you get the answer you're looking for

He said to the Pharisees 'You search the scriptures thinking in them you have eternal life and they talk about me, also on the road to Emmaus he explained to the disciples that the Law and the Prophets were about him. The whole of the OT is about him, not just the well known prophecies that about his life and ministry.

He said to the Pharisees 'You search the scriptures thinking in them you have eternal life and they talk about me, also on the road to Emmaus he explained to the disciples that the Law and the Prophets were about him. The whole of the OT is about him, not just the well known prophecies that about his life and ministry.

But the early church were taught the traditions of the Gospels from the beginning. I would never turn a new seeker to the Old Testament. What he/she needs is to see and know Jesus Christ. It is Jesus Christ Who saves. Certainly let them then read Genesis. But let them at the same time keep on reading the Gospels. Then when they read the Old Testament they will read it in the light of the Gospels.

This simply isn't true. They didn't have a written NT, but they had the teachings of the apostles and prophets, which became the NT.

What did Jesus change? Maybe the mind of religion, but not the mind of His Father. For example Jesus changed Pauls mind, from hating Him to loving Him so much that Paul died preaching the same thing that he once killed people for.

Is the world any different today??

I knew little about the OT world when I came to Christ, but I knew all about the world we live in now....and that was more than enough.
