Could it be possible that the difference in the varying religions is solely a matter of perspective? For example, if two people are standing in a street and witness an event and are asked to report about it, will they not have different interpretations of what is important and thus write different stories that are nevertheless rooted in a kernel of the truth? Could the different religions not be the same? Could one religious group not see an event and write a slightly different account based on their culture and beliefs than another religion? I think that the difference in religions could be just a matter of perspective and assumptions based on common experiences.

C.S. Lewis believed something along these lines. He saw the similarities in myths and legends from various regions at different times in history, and how they had striking similarities with the biblical narrative. There are some interesting correlations between the teachings of Jesus and the teachings of Buddha. If I were to write out a list of all the gods who were supposedly born of a virgin, as Jesus was, the list would be enormous. Think about how many cultures have a myth about a great flood wiping out much of mankind (cf. the Epic of Gilgamesh). Read the creation myth of the Delaware Indians, which was passed down for generations before the bible was introduced to the New World: in it you'll find the Great Spirit creating a man and a woman, and the woman being deceived by a snake. Look at how many ancient gods died and came back to life (some exactly 3 days later, like Jesus).

I believe that all religions contain elements of truth, but only one contains the fullness of truth.
