The Methodists Defrocked this Pastor for failure to follow the rules of the Denomination.

Do the Methodists survive this or not?

They have been in the depths of apostasy for fifty years. How does that which is dead survive anything?

Here in the UK, we have recently had scandals re Methodists.

This guy is a practicing homosexual. He was caught committing indecent acts in a public lavatory, and said "sorry" so the Methodists allowed him to continue. He is friends with another gay Methodist preacher from the USA.

The good news is he coming to America!

What on earth would Wesley have made of all of this. But then I guess a lot of Methodists couldn't care less.

Well according to the book of Romans the last sign that a nation, people, house, etc.is ripe for
judgement is sexual immorality on a grand scale. When people refuse to keep God in their knowledge they are given over to a reprobate (void of judgement) mind and they work those things which are unseemly I.E. men with men and women with women. When it gets to this state, the only thing left if they refuse to repent and change is the judgement (wrath) of God.

And end to the Methodist Movement?

There is a 'ministry' over here where which seeks to make use of a growing number of empty Methodist churches by trying to get Christians to use the buildings. A better option than letting them be converted into another pub, flats, offices or some other venture.

First, I attend a Methodist church. Was raised Methodist (technically) and came back to the church nearly 5 years ago. If this Pastor went against the rules of the denomination then he shouldn't be allowed to continue. The Pastor from the UK shouldn't be allowed to continue either. He committed a sin by simply engaging in indecent acts, especially in a public lavatory. Personally, the gay part, to me, is irrelevant. Indecent acts are indecent acts, whether same sex or not.

I wonder to what John Wesley would think.

I asked our pastor once about gay weddings, and he said he would be removed if he officiated at a gay wedding. Period.

I have no intentions of leaving the Methodist denomination or my particular church. It is so full of the Love of God, His Holy presence and genuine devotion I can't imagine ever wanting to leave. Praise God!

Frankly, I don't care wht John Wesley thinks, I care what God thinks! He says that homosexuality is an abomination. All I really need to know.

For some reason most people seem to believe that America is beyond judgment. That somehow God does not hold this country accountable. Yes, God is patient with US...but His patience IS limited. Are we deserving of judgment? Yes. When it arrives will we repent? No.

Is Nancyer merely stating that sin is sin is sin?

I'm glad if they defrock people for officiating in so-called 'gay weddings.' Good for them.

It would be good if some preachers were defrocked for marrying people who leave their spouses to marry each other, too.

When God visits his judgement on the USA, there is going to be massive loss of life. There are three prospects currently:
(1) Another earthquake along the San Andreas fault.
(2) The eruption of the Yellowstone super-volcano.
(3) Massive tsunami from the Canary Islands volcano destroying America's east coast

First of all, the UMC is one of the only mainline denominational churches in the United States that officially calls homosexuality a sin. Most other mainline denominations have decided that homosexuality is just a choice, and is not a sin.

So for the UMC to stick by the Book of Discipline, and punish the pastor for breaking the rule (even if theologically liberal United Methodists would be unhappy with this ruling) means that they still stand for something. They aren't afraid of how it might make some unhappy.

This won't silence those who are theologically liberal, but it does show them that the denomination stands by its Book of Discipline, and, more importantly, Scripture.

So will the denomination split over this? Only God knows if it will.
