Someone told me that they thought that when our translators interpreted the spiritual light that God gave the earth on the first day with the word "light", they were not far wrong. Light opens up our eyes, it is warmth and represents love, it penetrates the darkness. If we put up barriers to God in our life it is through sin. God and sin cannot live together, it must be excluded from heaven. Sin comes between us and joy, abundance, everything God wants for us. It is like a wall that keeps God's light from penetrating.

When we pray for God to supply our needs, to get rid of what stands in the way of our abundance and joy, that is what God wants for us and what God can supply for us. But sin is like a wall standing between the light of the Lord and the Lord's ability to get to us. Sometimes that wall is created by the sin of those around us, but it is sin that stands between us and God.

Someone else explained to me that a prayer and our work to cleanse sin is more effective for achieving our needs that simple prayer for our needs. A person who is ill, working with God not on her illness directly, but on the resentment she feels toward the people God used to create her. Someone working with the bad results of a caustic mother in law living with them, giving love and caring for that woman to tear down the barriers of God's light rather than asking for direct relief. A person who asks God for health to be restored, instead of asking for God to send his light through the wall of sin, tackling the resentments and angers in their life so God's light can break through.

This reminds me of Solomon:

2 chronicles 1

7 In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee.
8 And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his stead.
9 Now, O Lord God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.
10 Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?
11 And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:
12 Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.

That might imply we are can control of God's actions. So no, I don't think we can place anything in the way which would prevent God from doing something.

Someone mentioned sin as a barrier but doesn't He cause the rain to fall on the evil and the good?

Could be praying wrong. I see people tend to pray for stuff God already answered or already gave. So He's up there looking confused.

I can only consider that you do not believe in the free will of man............for surely if we deny Jesus the Christ, we put a barrier between us and the wondrous Grace of God unto eternal life.........and that is sin.

The reason Jesus was born, crucified, and resurrected was to remove the barrier between man and God, to pay the price for our sin, and to make us worthy to be called sons of God.

Matthew 13:54) And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?
55 .) Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?
56 .) And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?
57 .) And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.
58 .) And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

[h=1]Mark
6[/h]
1 .) And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.
2 .) And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?
3 .) Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.
4 .) But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.
5 .) And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.
6 .) And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.

I don't think 'your' barrier does anything not prevent God from going through it. His will shall be done in heaven and on earth. Like a big truck going down a big hill, with no brakes. ;)

which translates to...........you do not believe in free will?

hey, that's fine, whatever mows your lawn..........but it is a simple question.......but Jesus disagrees with you......

I don't think we are controlling God at all when we put up a barrier of sin we hold onto. God has goodness and abundance for all, like you say, rain falls on the evil and the good.

If you cure a disease by freeing yourself from a resentment you have so the stress that caused the disease in the first place is gone, you are letting God's light in. The light was always there, you aren't controlling God at all.

When our prayers are not answered, it is because the request that a person requested isn't going accordingly to God's will.

Matthew 26:39
Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
