Default Do Not Harm the Oil and the Wine!

    Revelation 6

    Amplified Bible (AMP)

5 When He broke open the third seal, I heard the third living creature call out, Come and look! And I saw, and behold, a black horse, and in his hand the rider had a pair of scales (a balance).

6 And I heard what seemed to be a voice from the midst of the four living creatures, saying, A quart of wheat for a denarius [a whole day’s wages], and three quarts of barley for a denarius; but do not harm the oil and the wine!

Can anyone explain these verses? What does the oil and wine represent? Any thoughts?

The black horse is the first topic on this video:

    Yahshua and Karraster like this.
Revelation 15:3, "And they sing the Song of Mosheh, the servant of Yahweh, and the Song of the Lamb, saying: Great and marvelous are Your works, Father Yahweh Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of saints!"

Revelation 14:12, "In this manner are the saints purified--by keeping the Laws of
Yahweh, in conformity with the faith in Yahshua Messiah."

Sorry Hizikyah, can't see the video but Jesus Christ interprets the seals of Rev 6 in Mat 24, after all, He wrote the book from cover to cover...

Rev 6:1 And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.
Rev 6:2 And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.

Mat 24:4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
Mat 24:5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

Rev 6:3 And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.
Rev 6:4 And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.

Mat 24:5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
Mat 24:6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
Mat 24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:...

Rev 6:5 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.
Rev 6:6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

Mat 24:7 ... and there shall be famines, ...

So we see famine is the third seal. Now what about the oil and wine?

    New Living Translation
And I heard a voice from among the four living beings say, "A loaf of wheat bread or three loaves of barley will cost a day's pay. And don't waste the olive oil and wine."

It will be in very short supply. Drought and famine are the byproduct of some different actions...

Lev 26:18 And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.
Lev 26:19 And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:

Drought is the consequence of sin (take note you who wish to do away with God's Law, you are about to learn some very dear lessons)...

    2Ch 6:26 When the heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; yet if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them;
2Ch 6:27 Then hear thou from heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou hast taught them the good way, wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given unto thy people for an inheritance.

Drought and the resulting famine is the natural result of SIN, the transgression of God's Law.

While grapes and olives can and do grow well in rocky, sandy soil, they need adequate rainfall. This seal shows us that rainfall will be in short supply and wine and oil will be scarce. Indicating that basic foodstuffs will be in short supply and quite costly.

Note the first part of the verse, enough wheat to make a loaf of bread or enough barley to make three loaves of bread will cost a full day's wages. If we take the average American income as $43,460.00, that means a loaf of bread will cost a whopping $167.15. Think that can't happen? During the days of the Weimar Republic in Germany just after WWI, it got so bad that a loaf of bread cost a wheelbarrow of German marks. Inflation reached a point that factories were paying their workers every hour.

Isayah 24:1-6, "Behold, Yahweh makes the earth empty and makes it waste, perverts the face of it and scatters abroad its inhabitants; And it will be: as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his owner; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with him who takes usury, so with him who gives usury to him: The land will be utterly emptied and utterly plundered, for Yahweh has spoken this word. The earth mourns and fades away, the world mourns and fades away, and the haughty people of the earth languish. The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants of it, because they have transgressed the Laws, changed the ordinance, and broken the everlasting covenant. Because of this, the curse has devoured the earth, and they who dwell therein are desolate; therefore, the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left."

Thanks for the replies. Now I'm depressed.

I was hoping for something spiritual, like the wine represents the new wine of beleivers of Yahshua Messiah/Jesus. The oil represented Israel who have kept the commandments and hope in Yahweh/God.

Nope, Christ is revealing the events of the end time that occur prior to His return. There are metaphors in Revelation, but the seals are explained in straightforward fashion in the Olivet prophecy.

    I believe the following...

    1. When the great tribulation hits the price of wheat and barley will skyrocket and it will cost a days wage (penny) to buy enough food for the day. When I was a machinist my days wage was about $175 to about $375 a day and I cannot imagine dropping that much to buy food for one day, but it is coming.

    2. Hurt not the oil and the wine. Keep men drunk and keep the oil flowing and the industrial revolutionized world keeps storming toward the end.

The truth is, that if you keep people (satisified) in their own little bubble world they will ride that (proverbial) horse straight to hell without batting a eye. Remember, no man may buy or sell if he receives not the mark....MEN and WOMEN will choose the mark and hell so as to be able to buy the things that they need. Primarily (food) and when the world begins to go down (liquor)

You want outrageous interpretation? You got it.
Oil is the Holy Spirit and wine is the blessing from Yahweh - it would be scarce at the end times.

oil & wine are extravagances while wheat and barley are staples.

the dark horse with the scale speaks of famine; born out in the excessive prices for grain -
but that the luxuries aren't to be harmed? well, perhaps because they are worth so much, especially when scare, so be careful with them! but there is also the interpretation i've heard that even while the poor cannot afford bread, the rich still have their extravagances.. sort of indicating that the famine isn't completely due to natural causes but greed and class divisions. this is a bit of a shaky interpretation though as oil is also used to make bread, and in the land where the olive trees grow, it's not so hard to come by.

also throughout scripture oil is representative of the Spirit, but in an anointing sense or as fuel for a lamp, usually not food. if you want to spiritualize this passage, bear in mind that the Word is likened to bread. still i think this speaks of famine - in context with the other horsemen that speak of war and pestilence, physical things, it might be a bit of a stretch to say this prophesies a 'spiritual famine' - but we know from other scripture that the apostasy, false teachings & falling away near the end also indicate the same thing.

all in all it is about famine & scarcity, however that is made meaningful to you.

It is literal. They won't plague the oil and wine. It is God's grace in a time of judgement.

Talking about solomon. Oil comes from wheat and wine from barley. They represent the famous judgement of Solomon of the two women who had children an one died then they both claimed the remaining child and it was left to Solomon to determine who's child it really was. He threatened to chop the child in half to give an equal share to each and the real mother gave the child to the other woman to save it from death. It's just a parable saying don't hurt either child in judgement even though you threaten that fact to determine the truth.

    hello dear sister.

    revelation 6:5-6
5 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.
6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

if we run the reference for what i just put in bold black above for verse 6... we see that god is leading us to that very answer sister karraster... of what is the oil and what is the wine.

the answer is found in revelation 7.

what is in bold black below is the 4 angels and their commandment from god.
what is in bold blue below is the angel and his commandment from god to the 4 angels.
what is in bold purple below is the commandment from god to not hurt his sealed servants.

    revelation 7:1-17
    144,000 jews
And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.

here we see that 4 angels are holding back the 4 winds... the 4 angels are holding something back that the 4 winds are symbolizing dear sister...

and we see that answer in the next verses below.

    2
And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea,
3 Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.

we see in these two verses now that an angel sealed with the seal of god himself came down and commanded the 4 angels to HURT the earth and sea... BUT NOT TO hurt the sealed servants of god.

so now we see that the 4 angels holding back the 4 winds... are actually holding back the WINDS OF WAR sister that must take place on earth and on sea.

for the first woe is passed... and so has the second woe passed dear sister... one woe left sister... battle of armageddon.

4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.

now for the oil and wine...

we know the oil is a symbol and shadow of the holy spirit... but the wine dear sister... is amazing.

the wine is a symbol and a shadow of... god's true holy word revealed to the bride/ the elect/ the chosen before all creation... revelations of god holy word to every true holy spirited filled believer alone...

one holy body of god... one holy word of god... one holy way to believe god's holy word ( no variances in beliefs of god's holy word at all ) for god cannot say something and then say something different later... god is divine perfection and so is his holy word.

here is our example sister in matthew 16:13-20 and acts 2:1-21

    matthew 16:13-20
revelation of the person of the king
13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

    revelation of the church
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.

so we see above that god alone... through a supernatural revelation... showed peter who our lord jesus christ truly was... the messiah.

and we see also that our lord jesus christ states to peter... and to us... that god's holy church shall and will be built upon the supernatural revelations from god himself... of his own holy truth of his holy word.

one holy church of god... one holy body of god... one holy word of god... one holy way to believe god's holy word ( no variances in beliefs of god's holy word at all )... for god cannot say something and then say something different of his holy word... god is divine perfection and so is his holy word.

    and...

    acts 2:1-21
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?
13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
14But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
    16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:
21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

what is in bold black above is a true holy spirited believer.
what is in bold blue above is the attributes of a true holy spirited believer... god through the holy spirit reveals his own holy word to the believer... gifts and fruits of the holy spirit.

shown below is the gifts of the holy spirit in 1 corinthians and the fruits of the holy spirit in galatians 5.

    1 corinthians 12:1-12
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.
3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
    8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
    9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

    galatians 5:22-26
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

so now we see the oil and wine being sealed... and we see exactly who they are dear sister.

5 Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand.
6 Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Nephthalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand.
7 Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand.
8 Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.

    and lastly dear sister...

we see god's commandment to of his holy word being fulfilled and the 144,000 are sealed out of the jews. and are now the servants of god.

there is so much more here dear sister but it would make a rather long post and i have already written quite a lengthy response to your question of... I was hoping for something spiritual, like the wine represents the new wine of beleivers of Yahshua Messiah/Jesus. The oil represented Israel who have kept the commandments and hope in Yahweh/God.

much love sister and god bless you always.
