Rather than to prove or disprove the Bible teaches pacifism, why not share where our Lord, Jesus Christ, teaches us to war.....to kill.....or even to batter others?

God sent his people into war throughout the OT and Jesus never spoke against it,never condemned war.Id say thats your answer.

I would defend as much as possible, primarily with my life yet I would not conduct any physical harm to anyone. This third way of dealing with enemies (one way is to do absolutely nothing (which is wrong), & the second way is to outright attack and kill the enemy (which is also wrong)) is not taught in our culture so it's difficult to know the best course to take. What I do know is my family's life and enemy's life are equally valuable therefore I would not judge which one is worthy of dying. I guess I would try to distract the attacker and put myself between him and my family and give my family a chance to get away. I would definitely do anything I could to protect my family while exhibiting love towards the attacker as much as possible. I realize this is contrary to our nature, unpopular, and can be impractical; this is why I trust in God and say that His foolishness is far wiser than any of our thoughts. I can't see joining the police or military as something a Christian would do; however simply joining in and of itself is not wrong. What is wrong are our actions: harming or killing. Hopefully this explains a little better yet this subject is way to comprehensive to explain in a format such as this. I don't believe I can adequately explain my belief nor can you or anyone explain y'alls belief. May we continually meditate on God's word.
BW you say killing is wrong, you do know that the Angel of Death that came on the Egyptians was the pre-incarnate Christ, right?

Yahweh did send His chosen people, Israel, out to battle and to defeat the nations whom He had judged should be dispossessed because of their having turned to worship of things made by men. He says why He did.

Also in the Word we are taught that the accounts of the Old Testaments are there as ensamples (examples) of what was not approved, but never has Jesus taught us to go to battle for this material world's assets.

When God orders us to go to a physical war with anhyone on His behalf, let all know, but as for me, I know we are not to war, not for this world.

Our war is not of this world but with things unseen...... It is important in the name of Love, that is god, that we do not seek excuses to war or kill in the flesh, for if the material is our goal the spiritual loses.

At this point it becomes necessary to ask, which are we to follow, the Old TEstament or the New, and by this I mean the eaxamples given?

Jesus Christ, Yeshua, is revealed in the New, but He is taught first in the Old.

I weary of peoploe who tell me obedience is being under the Law, the OT, but they use the OT to refute the teachings of the New. This action magnifies a lack of udnerstanding Love, God. For if we love God we will learn from Him what obedience is.

If we love perfectly, we will do as did out Salvation. We will ask the Father t forgive them for they know not what they do, nto think of excuses to be the first to kill.

Of course the OT and the NT teach us truth, but rightly dividing the Word of God is a lifetime endeavor which will not be perfected until God's Day, but what we do know is love we must put into practice and not slander love with false exccuses.

So what of the Holocaust...

We all know the history of mankind. Man has always committed horribile atrocities without being in the love of God.

Much has been covered up, but there is still enough knowledge abailable to know that atrocities have occurred with just about all peoples..........do not forget all peoples.

It is a spot on reply. The most recetnt genocide was the millions of Tutsie (sp) killed just a few years ago. There have been many ofsuch atrocities performed by powerful God-less men. That is the lesson of this age, it is not the true and eternal, it is destinedfor the fire next time as is foretold.

I have no reason to favor war, not for petroleum, power, or any of the such. I recall how many proclaiming Christians vowed to go into Iraq if it were invaded and conquered to evangelize the survivors. Not a one went........and so marches this age, one atrocity uppon another. God bless all who are in Jesus Christ, amen....

Now I choose not to pursue this furthur because it is a deflection from the thread. Should you have a burning desire in the sight of God to discuss the horrors of WWII, you are welcome to start your own thread.

Was this supposed to be an answer to my question?

Jesus and the disciples spoke very passionately. That is what we are to do when proclaiming the truth. Speaking or writing is different from killing someone. Just look at the harsh things Jesus said and Paul said to other people. The principle is the same. God did not harm the disciples, others did. I am not harming the woman. It would be wrong of me to do nothing. I would risk my life to help the woman without being evil to the rapist. Bad and evil things happen in this world, it is just a fact. We can't stop all the evil. No where does God direct us to choose one life over another. We are to love EVERYONE. I am not at fault or responsible if a woman is raped, using your scenario. This is a horrible thing. This is the way the world works because we, man, brought about sin in the Garden of Eden and changed this world to have evil and death.

Speaking or writing is different from killing someone.
You have heard that it was said to the ancients, ‘Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, ‘Raca,’ will be subject to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be subject to the fire of hell."

You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart."

Well, not biblical but when it comes to pacifism my favorite quote has always been...

"Speak softly but carry a big stick" t. roosevelt
