What stands out to me at the moment is the passage subtitled "The Birth of John the Baptist" (according to the NIV from Bible Gateway @ Luke ). See verse Luke 1:61, which states about others, "They said to her, 'There is no one among your relatives who has that name.'” Then it made me think, "Why did they say that?"

I am curious, was it a customary thing to give relatives the same name back in the Bible days, among Jews?

Ok, I just heard/read the part of the shepherds. "Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying..." After a multitude or large number of heavenly beings interrupted some shepherds, which is news in itself, I find it interesting that the shepherds then said, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” They were talking about seeing a baby. Now, I get that this is news to see a baby, and to see God's glory on a baby is even more amazing-- But would you just turn and say, "Nice, I just saw an alien or some angels, but I am off to see a baby?"

I am not being skeptical. It is just something that came across my mind.

Okay, I just read/heard the "Boy Jesus in the Temple" part.
This stands out (will make bold the key words):
After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. [SUP]47 [/SUP]Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers.

The Bible never shows Jesus making a mistake. So this part interests me, because he is in his formative years and "listening"
to teachers (mere men, compared to Jesus' righteousness). At the same time, he is amazing people with his understanding and
answers. The word answers can mean: He gave blatant answers: 1+1=? "2" is the simple answer. However, boy Jesus could
have amazed, by asking questions to be his answer. (*See Matthew 21:26, Mark 11:31, Luke 20:6 for my meaning).
Regardless, boy Jesus appeared to have good answers compared to most people at his age, so he stood out, thus, amazing everyone.

Again, just some thoughts from reading. not being skeptical.

*read a few verses before to see Jesus asking, sorry

God was trying to save everyone

children are not to teach adults it would have caused animosity
Jesus asked leading questions
they would answer
then he would ask
"What about this?"
and what about that?

if he was to save the Jews from the Romans why does it say he would be crucified...

he made them think and they learned their theories were all wrong...

Jesus is God and asked the right questions, he almost converted them...

Luke 3 related reading: Herod Antipas of Judaea, Tetrarch of Galilee and Perea (c.-21 - c.40) - Genealogy
I was reading up on "tetrarch," not understanding its meaning.

Patriarch means ruler of a family or head of a clan

tetrarch is ruler of a fourth part of a country
Herod was a tetrarch
country was split into four parts.

since remember Greece had four rulers? Then Rome took over?
the layout remained the same they just called them archies or parts of the world.
