I submit they are simply liars - to themselves and to those they tell that to. We have all heard the saying "there are no atheists in foxholes", well I believe that is true. I believe when facing death every man knows he is facing a meeting with his maker. People simply want to be the man in charge. They don't want to answer to anyone, or anything else. They want to believe they are the ultimate authority in their life, that they run the show. I had a thought a couple of days ago - how long would it take an atheist in a space ship, after being jettisoned out the door like so much flotsam, to call on God? That thought alone makes one feel quite insignificant.

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.

I have quite a few atheist friends and I can tell you, without a doubt, you're wrong.

Atheists GENUINELY do not believe there is a god. They aren't in denial of something they know deep down inside. That would be as ridiculous as an atheist claiming, "There are no true theists, all of them know deep down there is no god."

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.
If this quote suggests a person is foolish not to believe in God, then you can make an argument attempting to support such a claim. I won't contest.

But if you suggest atheists do believe in God, and they merely deny him, then I'll speak up. Because this genuinely is not the case.

Many people out there genuinely believe there isn't any God the same way you genuinely believe there isn't a Zues.

King James Version

14 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good
"This quote" as you put it, doesn't suggest, it emphatically makes that statement. Do you tell them they are dead wrong? I too know people that claim to deny Gods' existence. I tell them they are in trouble and they better stop lying to themselves.
You certainly stood up in defence of them in a hurry. I hope and trust you defend God to them just as swiftly.

I've been on the edge of death, within minutes of being beyond help, and I might be there soon again. We are waiting on tests to see if it's cancer, as we suspect. There have already been two positive tests and those are usually 100% sensitive. And once it starts showing, it has usually metastasized.

I do not want to die. I will feel disappointed if I don't get to 40. The pain hasn't served any purpose and the symptoms haven't made me stronger. If the doctors are correct, the survival rate is 2/3 at 5 years.

And yet, having faced death once and possibly twice now, I do not feel as though there is a god. I hear people talking rapturously about their relationship, but I think they are incorrect. I think they are scared and are willing to cling to something that promises them eternal life.

It's not because I want to be in charge. I feel like a man looking at the blue sky, being told that it is yellow, and that his refusal to acknowledge it means he thinks he is god.

You are wrong about this. I once realized that I would not wake up and all I felt was peace. There was nothing to do, nothing to fear. Peace, like all the things I worried about no longer mattered. No future, no more pain. No god either.

Tell me then, if you will, and I am not being facetious, why this website? Why not a porn site, or some other such place where temporary pleasure might be obtained? I would think, if you are being truthful, you would be interested in wringing what pleasure in life you can while here.

Having been an atheist, I would say they do think there is no God. However, there are no atheists or agnostics in hell as everyone their believes but it is too late.

I'm on the couch, bored while the family is watching Secrets. It's about Pope Joan; few people believe it and it doesn't matter anyway. So I'm browsing a website on which I enjoy having conversations.

Shall I stop coming here? Is that what you're counseling?

Friend, I am sorry to hear about your possible cancer as my best friend from school just went thru colon cancer which was stage four and he is a believer/pastor of a church in Peoria Illinois. We had quite a few people pray for him and he believed that the Lord could deal with it and after surgery, and 6 months of chemo he is in remission, no detectable traces of cancer and looks as good as the day he first got sick. My son who is 19 was born with the worst case of congenital myotonic dystrophy and we were told he would not live 2 days...about 50 churches in 10 states lifted him in prayer and he can do all that the doctors told us he would never be able to do.

Maybe you don't believe in God, maybe your heart is hardened unto the possibility of God, Maybe your conscience has been seared because of going through it twice already, but know this.....God is a reality unto the people who believe in God and have seen God work in their lives while taking the impossible and making it possible.

I will pray for you, and may the God of heaven cause his face to shine down on you and bless you out of heaven while revealing himself unto you mi amigo.

2 corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

God Bless

Of course there is, don't you know they are the people who hate Him most?

I am sure there are some that have convinced themselves they believe it, but they haven't convinced me. I simply cannot believe that anyone actually believes there is no grand plan, no omnipotent designer. That is the ultimate in denial. Maybe there really are, but I don't buy it. Maybe it is oversimplification on my part. The fact that God calls them a fool indicates to me that He knows they know.

that just shows your mindset, should you ever lose faith and believe that there isn't in fact a God. Why does anybody who doesn't believe like christians automatically get labelled a pervert?

Seems like you're the one that needs christianity to restrain you.

I know I certainly need Jesus. I was downright nasty as an atheist.

Then you're the blind person that needed rescuing, not some other guy. Jesus didn't come for the people that have morality and well-thinking, he came for the one's who didn't.

So many christians ask 'if you don't believe in heaven or hell, what stops you raping and murdering?'

it's like .. 'emm, cause that's fairly sick'. To me it seems like your average atheist isn't the one with the moral issue.

You are completely wrong about that Christ died so everyone could be saved.
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

How did you get that out of what I said? Walking in the flesh fulfills physical pleasure. I said that or "some other place"......an atheist can get no personal satisfaction from this website, so why bother coming here? If you were dying would you want to spend your last days being bored?

I need nothing to "restrain" me, only Christ to give me strength and guidance.

No satisfaction? True. But it is enjoyable while I'm stuck, either on the bus between campuses, on the couch watching (now) the Olympics, or in front of a computer waiting for a calculation to finish. Sometimes, on the toilet. There are few things that can give you personal satisfaction on the toilet, so I choose the last website I had open.

Occasionally it is the weather, but I usually flip from that to back here.

If you were dying would you want to spend your last days being bored?
It's true - the conversations are increasingly boring. But: you know that little snarky feeling you got when you typed the original post? How holy and righteous and correct you felt? That was a shot of dopamine. I'm feeling something similar in pointing this out. So perhaps it won't satisfy me, but it's fun.

Yet, if the best you can do is: "Why are you here? Aha, I've proven something!!!" then yes, it's boring.

I suppose it's time for a demonstration. Observe:
