We as humans have become so conditioned that "nothing is free" that we cannot accept that God would give us something for free. We add our own conditions, and try to add our work to God's gift.
The only "thing we have to do" is live our lives for Him. Our living for God adds nothing to our salvation, justification or sanctification. If you add your work to any of this then it's pretty safe to say "God owes you something". It's the other way around....we owe God everything!

I can't spare the time to review this large topic. It is quite simple. Works are but a conformation of the spiritual. Good works follow transformation into the life of Jesus our Christ. of God. If a man's deeds are evil, it is clear that man is not led by the Christ. If consistently good works, there is evidence of Christ in him. But that can't stand as total prrof the good-worker is of Christ. Discern it.

Actually it's very Biblical. So many people site this passage in James to defend that our works save us. This is one of the verses that is taken out of context constantly. James is not saying our works save us but that our faith is shown by our works.
This argument will go on forever as long as people believe they can save themselves or help save themselves. If your work can save you then what is the work of Christ good for? If you can save yourself then Jesus died for nothing.

James is describing how a person will act after salvation ( He is stating that his faith in the cross is shown by his works and not vice versa), if we could be saved by our own actions then there would have been no need for the cross. To say that our works save us is defecating on the cross and the doctrine of Devils.
Hardly biblical. This false teaching appears at the Reformation. Your statement is a perfect example of contradiction. Which is why all men will stand in judgment for the works they have done.

The statement in red is very telling of your misunderstanding of salvation. What Christ accomplished was to reverse the fall of man. God's purpose was to enable man to again be joined in an eternal relationship for which man was created. That purpose is built on man freely working with God in this created order to bring both himself and the creation back to God as a living sacrifice. That takes work and effort. Our work for our personal salvation has absolutely nothing to do with what Christ accomplished for us. We cannot add to it, cannot subtract from it, cannot accept it, cannot reject. However in believing that he saved the world from death and sin justifies our faith and puts a person in the proper alignment with God so that a person can begin his working with God. We are to work toward perfection, to be transformed into His Likeness, all of which takes work done through faith and if a person is faithful he will inherit eternal life.

you choose Calvin over James?...James says faith without works is dead, can that faith save?....Calvin says "Faith alone saves, but the faith that saves is not alone"
