Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand.

One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord. Romans 14:4-6

Happy Easter Sunday!

Nowhere in the Bible is it commanded to worship and gather to celebrate Christ's resurrection. There is a command and various examples of Christ and Paul worshiping on the Sabbath.

do we have to be commanded to celebrate christ's resurrection?

is there any good reason -not- to celebrate the single most important thing that has ever happened?

I thought that was the crucifixion--the center of history?

Without the resurrection, what would be the purpose of His death?

is there some particular day we shouldn't rejoice in His sacrifice, His Redemption, and His rest?

While I live will I praise the LORD:
I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.

(Psalm 146:2)

Jesus' birth, life, death, and resurrection are all vital. I have heard people ask which is the most important. This question is ridiculous to me because He could not be resurrected if the others had not preceded the resurrection. I do think it was God's intention that He die on the cross.....It is all important.

4 thousand years on one side (BC), roughly 2 thousand years the other side (AD). The crucifixion was the most important event in the history of all creation but it isn't in the centre of the historical timeline. More like 2/3rds of the way through.

The Sabbath was once observed on the eighth day, so that every day would be the Sabbath, eventually. The Sabbath is our day of rest, but, Christ became our Sabbath , so Christ became our rest , for we rest in Christ.

Nowhere in the Bible is it commanded to worship and gather to celebrate Christ's resurrection.

While there is no direct command to worship and gather on the first day of the week, when we read in the Scriptures about the early Christians, we see that they came together and broke bread, and sat under the preaching of Paul (Acts 20:7).

Then in 1 Cor. 16:2, Paul instructed the saints to lay in store their offering upon the first day of the week, so that when he came, there would be no gatherings. Therefore from the very first century of the Church, the Christians were meeting on the first day of the week for fellowship and breaking of bread.

The question is how many times a year do we celebrate the resurrection? For the Sabbath, there are very clear instructions that it is to be a weekly gathering of God's people for worship.

Yes, but making any of these as an excuse for not obeying the command to keep the Sabbath and worshipping on another day is unfounded.

I don't want to start an endless debate about the Sabbath, but...

Can you show me one verse in the New Testament that commands that we should keep it?

Could you please provide a Biblical text for this eighth day?

The Sabbath is a symbol for the rest we have in Christ but it is also an appointment we have with God--one that He has set and not man--so that we can more freely enjoy this spiritual rest.

Sunday worship was not instituted as a Christian practice until the 4th Century AD due to anti-Jewish sentiment under the Roman Empire. Before this time, all Christian churches worshipped on the Sabbath.

Regarding Acts 20:7, they could meet any day they chose to meet. In fact, there was a time they broke bread daily. But these meeting did not replace the Sabbath. In Acts 20:7, it was probably called because he intended to leave the next day.

Regarding 1 Corinthians 16:2, did they lay in store their offerings in their own homes or in the house they used for gathering? Was there a worship service when they laid in store their offerings? There is too little evidence in the Bible to answer these questions I think.

On the other hand, we have these verses indicating Paul worshipped on the Sabbath day: Acts 13:14, 15; 16:13; 17:1-4. The last of these verses say that worshipping on the Sabbath was Paul's custom.
