The items in Allin's five point objection were not as pronounced publicly during the age of dueling as they are today for to give a public offense opened one up to the honor challenge of a duel (in a time before the invention of antibiotics).

As a result, it is also simultaneously remembered as an age of manners... well... among the more genteel anyways.

These are the artists I object to, but to me, when I paint I am trying to express the spiritual beauty I see. If I would have trained my hands, I would have specialized in showing the way young faces can reflect light, love, and God.
It's one of those things. As Job's friend told him, "God made man good, but man has gone in search of many schemes." Everything is originally good; it's how we use it and the ever present deceitful heart that really make things what they are.

Excellent thread and OP. I started a thread http://christianchat.com/bible-discussion-forum/66013-im-sick-arguing.html?highlight= June 5th 2013.

I was sick of it then, and am more so today. I have reported abuses, and have done my best to stay away from what I sincerely believe God hates. Guess what. I had to ask the mods to close the thread because arguments eventually prevailed about arguing plus other things that didn't even pertain to the thread.

Sad but true, most of the time (now) when I start a post with some meat, it goes to the second page before the day is done. I think either it's not interesting enough, or there is nothing that can be refuted, and/or most don't know much about the subject. Maybe it's my reputation, because of numerous reports to the mods concerning labels of degradation, like Judaizers, and legalizers.

I really only know one thing for sure. Edification in the proper way is all but extinct except for a few people who really care about what God thinks about us.
Same here about anything that has substance. As you can see, the less spiritual a thread is, the more attention it gets; if it has anything to do with sex, it'll get scores; if it's a damsel in distress, males will abandon truth and choose comfort instead. Christianity presently is usually the flesh with religion added. People don't love others, so Christians don't love others. People look out only for their own interests, so Christians look out only for their own interests. People want to be rulers rather than servants (when I waited tables, a waiter told me that only self-centered people actually enjoy waiting tables or serving others), so Christians want to be rulers rather than servants. People want to throw their weight and knowledge around, so Christians want to throw their weight and knowledge around. The question isn't "What makes Christians different from the world", because Christians are terrified to be different from the world, so that question is void and irrelevant; the question is "Are we having fun yet" when we play both fields so both the world and God can like us. When people care, they edify others. Caring is so 2,000 years ago; self-centeredness is forever in fashion.

You were doing pretty well until the random conspiracy theories reared their head...
I almost get a headache when I hear certain things. Have you ever watched something so dumb that you felt like your brain cells were dying? I have; it's not fun. I wince at some of the things I hear. If you want to be regarded as knowledgeable (if you want what you say to be considered worth listening to), then you have to be willing to look into it before you share. Don't be slow to learn; nothing is really true until you find it out for yourself (which is why you can't really or truly love or hate a person until you truly know them). Go find out about the so-called theories. I'm an insider; they aren't theories to me. Please try not to give me a headache. Don't be like those who believed and stated long ago that the earth was flat before they looked into it. What you choose to believe is always up to you, but don't encourage the belief that Christians are stupid. Please.

Fair enough. I don't like to 'take time' to debate with anyone who really wants to argue. People usually want to argue, so I never post anything that's open to arguments. People who go to argue with me are always making a fool of themselves (always) but just don't know it. If you take a look, you'll see that I often respond to people individually: people who want to accuse or attack I tend to 'lovingly' (and with a pained expression) mock; people who are gentle I'm gentle with; those who keep up the attack I ignore; those who want to learn I teach; those who say dumb things that make my head ache I tell them; those who want to tell me how to be a good Christian I give a piece of my mind; etc. I have no apologies whatsoever, so there's no use trying to tell me how to proceed or feel. A wise person once said (and I'm going to add this to my signature), "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind." Now somebody tell me that that isn't the truth.

Honestly, I was merely attempting levity. My humor can be dry. That aside, I almost always 'take time' to debate with anyone who really wants to argue about the Christian worldview with me (if I have the time to take that is) though I very much agree with you; however, that how it's done is important.

One reason I do this is because I discovered that God uses His Word and what Christians communicate to people in their lives. They remember, especially when they find themselves in a desperate place and need God the most.

But there's room for all kinds of personalities and approaches in Christendom including mine and including yours. Peace. :)

Yeah, I totally appreciate your humor. And yes, what you said is true. I'm glad there are people out there who take time to debate and all that. As you said, some people approach one way and others another way. It's good to hear from a positive debater.
