I came to Christ 5 1/2 years ago and my hunger to know the Word of God only grows stronger. I love God, love my church and the people in it and want only to fulfill God's purpose and will for my life. I have been thinking a lot lately about becoming a Chaplain. Not a minister or pastor but a chaplain. In a hospital, school, or even a women's prison.

I have been out of work for over a year, I'm 53 and am realizing that job searching and sending out resumes for hours every day isn't working. What I would much rather be doing is studying God's Word and passing this knowledge onto others. I put in a lot of hours at my church each week and love it. I also have experience teaching disabled adults and those who were eager to know the Lord were the clients I helped the most.

Does anyone here have experience in this field? Does anyone here know anything about the schooling, job market, future outlook? I'm not just looking for a paycheck, I'm hoping to follow my passion and therefore never have to 'work' again.

Thank you for your help,

@Nancyer, this is not an answer to your question, but I will try to point you in the right direction? It sounds as if you have been "called". You have heard Him have you not? Be still and know that He is God, seek Him and you will find Him, call out to Him and He will answer. These are not vague promises from God, but we treat them as that sometimes. There is only one that can help you! You have heard from Him already, so why not seek wisdom, and ask for counselling. If He is calling He has a plan, and He will open up to you and you will know it. There is also stepping out in Faith. Trust Him, He will carry you, pick you up if you stumble, feed you, clothe you, what else can I say. Be blessed, be faithful and enjoy your walk in the cool morning in the garden! Be blessed, because you have been blessed.

Dear Osiyo, thank you so much for the encouragement! You are right, of course, and it is the stepping out in Faith that is the hard part, isn't it? I have contacted schools to send me their information and will be speaking to my pastor this week about this decision and my next steps. Still hoping to hear from anyone who knows more about this directly.

Again, thank you. I am praying and listening for God's guidance and wisdom to show me the path He has set for me.
