Do you have an issue with believers taking communion alone to supplement quiet time spent daily with God, such as prayer time or Bible study? Do you think it's unscriptural to observe communion alone?

To be clear: I'm not asking if it's ok to do it alone so one doesn't have to observe it with their church, but rather to increase intimacy with the Lord in quiet time, can believers observe communion?

Since I started, I'll answer first. I believe we can take communion alone, so long as we don't use it as an excuse not to join a church body in the observance. Jesus said, "do this in remembrance of me." I've seen more Orthodox groups (RCC, EO, etc) say it's near heresy to take communion alone because a priest has to consecrate the elements. But if Jesus lives in us each, and COMMUNION is to be communal, it seems the only one needed to properly observe communion is the believer with Jesus. IMHO :)

Matthew 4:4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Matthew 6:11
Give us today our daily bread.

Breaking of the Bread has a multitude of purposes.

That's like asking 'can we have a church service alone?'
What would be the purpose that can't be accomplished in prayer and bible devotion?

When you come together, it is not the Lord's supper that you eat.
(1Co 11:20)

Jesus said as often as you do it do it remembrance of me. I know some churches that hold communion every Sunday and others once a month and others as when they take a notion to do so. I feel that there is no problem taking communion at home by yourself as long as the intentions are right. I have heard ( not physically witnessed) of people taking communion in the hospital and their results came to be good.

Yes, there are times when the pastor will bring communion to a shut-in etc., but then you have two ...which helps define 'communion'.

Cross I love you as a brother and you know that. But David encouraged himself in the Lord when nobody else could or would. Communion is with God and man. I agree that it should be done in a congregate manner. But there are times that it's just you and God and I love those times and if some one wants to take bread and say This is your flesh and this grape juice ( wine) is your blood and partake. I can find nothing biblical against it.

I suppose someone can do that, but why call it Communion? Every example I find in Scripture is with others.
Then there's the danger with further temptation to isolation and fragmentation as if the TV and internet hasn't already tempted people to stay home and 'watch'.

Thanks for the messages. I am a christian needed your prayers most. I do the missionaries work. Pray. I love u in the Lord's church. In him. Tracy

Sad to say...but isn't it a sign of what state the Church is in when somebody ask like this? Why would anyone want to take communion alone? What is the very meaning and significance of the word communion? Is there any room for alone there?

Kerry ,thanks for the messages. This would help us to observe at timeshare only. God will be with us where we gather as two r three. In Him Tracy

Certainly you can take communion alone

You pray for JEsus to accompany you and he fills you with holy spirit
now there are three of you and you can do communion.

Why would you want to do communion with others?
who are you communing with anyway?

If you think church is a social club with people then you may thin that you cant do it alone
but when you commune with JEsus its just him and you and the holy spirit.
Wonderful.

Oh, those who say you have to have this or that are probably pastors trying to make money.

Oh, boy. Shut up about pastors. That's all you ever do.

Holy Communion is something that should be done in community. It has nothing to do with social clubs but everything to do with being part of the Body of Christ - you know, confessing sins, remembering His sacrifice and worshipping Him.

"The priests said not, Where is the LORD? and they that handle the law knew me not:
the pastors also transgressed against me,
and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit." -Jeremiah 2:8.

"For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the LORD:
therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered." -Jeremiah 10:21.

"Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard,
they have trodden my portion under foot,
they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness." -Jeremiah 12:10.

"The wind shall eat up all thy pastors,
and thy lovers shall go into captivity:
surely then shalt thou be ashamed and confounded for all thy wickedness." -Jeremiah 22:22.

"Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD." -Jeremiah 23:1.

"Therefore thus saith the LORD God of Israel
against the pastors that feed my people;
Ye have scattered my flock,
and driven them away, and have not visited them:
behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the LORD." -Jeremiah 23:2.

"And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;" -Ephesians 4:11.

Just speaking the word of God...

Taking a poll on wether to do communion alone?

Why not read the Bible.

Luke 22:19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
Luke 22:20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

Jesus is telling ME to do it

i dont see no other person involved here.
Those teaching it has to be done in a church setting with people is likely those who own churches and own lots of people.

just the facts.
