(Matthew 9:37) Then He said to His disciples, "the harvest is truly plentiful, but the laborers are few...

(Proverbs 2:8-9) He guards the paths of justice, and preserves the way of His saints. Then you will understand righteousness and justice, equity and every good path.

It is difficult for me to discern the difference in the willful responsibility of each as well as the catalyst to the calling.

Can someone help me to distinguish between the two? GB

A true saint=a true disciple=a true saint.
Emphasis on one is 'set apart', emphasis on the other is 'a learner'.

...........in my opinion only............

disciple...one saved........new believer...........having decided to become a believer in and follower of Jesus Christ......

saint...one sanctified...having received and being led by the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit...a mature believer who is able to feast on the meat of His Word and serve as an ensample to the world as they walk Christ-like through this life, and as a mentor to new believers, instructing them in a more perfect understanding of the Gospel......

remember.......my opinion only...........

For the first one, is when JESUS knew there was a plentiful harvest, said HE to HIS disciples ~ those who are undergoing Holy spiritual teaching and training (HOLY SPIRIT's spiritual theory and practical training), with the MESSIAH. JESUS instructed them to bring in the harvest, for the Kingdom of GOD is at hand. They are sent ahead of JESUS to make a straight path in all men, in order for JESUS to come later and baptize with HOLY SPIRIT and Fire as proclaim by John the Baptist about the MESSIAH, the Passover Lamb of GOD.

And about the second, in that Saints are referred to the chosen Apostles, journeying after and for JESUS, on their own, being filled with HOLY SPIRIT and fire, also together laboring in GOD's building and plantation (that is referred to, 'A Gathering'), which is through them the established and 'abiding' church in 'The Way', those who journeyed together with them, who together endured tribulation and persecution, in this world of wretchedness, for righteousness sake, in the hands of the ignorant ones of satan

Disciple is Chrsitian, one who FOLLOWS The LEAD of the Holy Spirit to BECOME A SAINT. Saint is one that FOLLOWED the Holy Spirit all the way to be now FILLED with the Holy Spirit, to made a perfect man of God. A saved man! ALL sved men are perfect as God is perfect. ll saved men are SAVED SAINTS.... A Saved saint is a perfect man of God. A Sint is a man that stopped sinning but is NOT PERFECT Yet. Eph 4:11 to 13.

So here is the steps of slvation.... Sinner - disciple/christian (repenting sinner) - Saint (repented sinner, nothing more to repent but not perfect yet) - Perfected Saint (saved man of God) (Born of God) (God-filled man)

disciple - one who takes up their cross and follows Christ

saint - a sinner saved and justified by grace through the blood of Christ / one who has been given the rightewousness of God / one who learns to walk with God in the light / one who grows in grace and knowledge of Christ / one who may stumble or fall but keeps their eye upon the Lord and God is able to make them stand by grace / one who is constrained by the love of God to tell others of the goodness and greatness of God through the gospel of Christ

some people have the outward form of a disciple but not the inward santification of a saint.

Judas Iscariot was a disciple/ follower of Jesus but did not behave as a saint.

Simply put, a disciple of Jesus, is one of the original followers of Jesus. They were the closest to him. An Apostle is a person of faith that follows the teachings of Jesus. An apostle can be of any time and age but the disciples were one of the "twelve".

ACTS 9:36.
Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas:
this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.

A saint is a set aside one, they were judged in the first world age and found to be righteous, God can use them.
A disciple is a student of Gods word. God bless

saint ἅγιος hágios, hag'-ee-os; from ἅγος hágos (an awful thing) (compare G53, G2282); sacred (physically, pure, morally blameless, ceremonially, consecrated):—(most) holy (one, thing), saint.

disciple μαθητής mathētḗs, math-ay-tes'; from G3129; a learner, i.e. pupil:—disciple

In Matt 9:37, the word "disciple" means a learner, a disciple, a follower of Christ who learns the doctrines of Scripture and the lifestyle they require.

In Prov 2:8, the word "saint" means kind, pious, godly.

Six of the nine epistles written to the church by Paul are addressed to saints. The word "saint" means different, other, holy, likeness of nature with the Lord because different from the world. The Greek word hágios implies something set apart and therefore different (distinguished/distinct) – i.e. other, because special to the Lord.

Saint… a person who has been set aside for the purposes of God. Sanctified with a new spirit that will never die but will be raised to newness of life

Disciple….. student of the teacher

And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. Joh 6:65

I think a person could say those in Hebrews 6 were disciples that tasted of the word of God, tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost and turned away just as in the John reference above

Disciple is one of those words where context can help.

You can be a disciple and not be a saint. Some followed Jesus as a disciple to later turn back to their old ways and gave up on Him.

If you're a saint, you're also a disciple. We will always be disciples if we're saints. :)

Cross is right, a disciple bears the cross and more so the Saint, empowered by the Holy Spirit (Saint is Holy in French). The disciple did not receive the Holy spirit until after Jesus died and rose. Paul referred to having fellowship in the sufferings of Christ to be made conformed to be made conformed to His death... At the end of His life He said I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course, henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, and not for me only but for all who Love His appearing. The study referred below gives insight as well.

All the deciples who recieved the Holy Spirit are Saints ... Everyone who believes Jesus and trusts in the Atonement He secured for their salvation are Saints..
