Maybe its me but I'm failing to understand why prayer is so important, He knows everything about us why do we need to tell Him if He already knows. Along side that He speaks through us with His Word how many ways does He want to communicate with us?
Words like the following come to mind as to reasons we would/should pray to God...

adoration
worship
fellowship
friendship
guidance
assurance
love
faith
hope

.......just to name a few!

In Matthew 6, the Lord Jesus taught His disciples how to pray; for this reason alone it must be important.

In Romans 8, we read how the Spirit of God raised the Lord Jesus from the dead after He died at the Cross for sinners, and the same Spirit of God dwells in Christians and it is by the Spirit that they cry: Abba, Father; and the same Spirit and the Lord Jesus Himself intercede for those who love the Lord Jesus and trust Him. We should intercede, also; we express our dependence on Him in this way. It's a great chapter to read and learn from.

We can get all these things from church (maybe) or fellow Christian friends. Why does God want us to talk to Him when He already knows I don't see the point-

Yes, God knows everything but He wants to hear specifically from those whom He loves and who in turn, love Him.

But prayer is not the only way we communicate is it mandatory for us to pray. Okay, say if we don't pray can we still communicate with God. I believe God talks to us through more then just pray.

Why are you making this confusing?

Yes, the Holy Spirit speaks through God's Word - the Bible, through prayer, through general revelation = God's creation and through other Christians. Sometimes He even uses non-Christians to correct us or help us to understand something from His perspective. We also communicate with God when we worship him (with voices and/or instruments) and when we talk with Him.

Should we pray to God?
Yes, we should. Not because we're told to but because we love God, because He created us and because we're thankful for Christ's sacrifice and the Holy Spirit's guidance.

I should pray to God because I want to not because I feel I'm forced to. What does the Bible say about the importance of prayer?

Matthew 5, Romans 8, and 1 Thessalonians 5.15-17 should help.

Wow, "pray constantly" that means I should be in prayer about everything, whether He knows or not He wants to hear it from me. Pray about everything and all the time.

Pray without ceasing , pray and fast , James the apostle prayed so much on his knees that he was nicknamed 'camel knees'.

We should never pray for our own needs but for the needs of others, God already knows what we need.

just a thought.

Vernon, I thought if we wanted something that we should come to Him about it. I thought you were suppose to come to Him about your needs I may be wrong and correct if I am.
