Help Me Understand How To Act and What This Is Called

Hello,
So im new to this forum. I have been a christian all my life. I came here to hopefully get some insight on the curret situation I am in as well as what the Bible says about it. I have been trying to figure things out as best I can but I cant seem to find what I need to in the Good Book to guide me in the right direction.

So I am 22. I have been dating my amazing boyfriend for 3 years now. We do live together (although I understand that people will disagree with this i ask that we save that topic for later, Im much better at handling one topic at a time). We work hard, both have jobs, ect. However his mother is very interesting when i comes to religion. She beleives that God talks to her, like actually hears His voice, AND that He tells her what she needs to tell her children to do. Now i unerstand that evey one has their own faith and relastionship with God, but how do I handle this. She is now taking it upon herself to tell my boyfriend that GOD said that Im not holding on to him and that he needs to let me go (as in end our relationship). It also just so happens that she has decided to say this AFTER i stood up for myself because she made us keep her to other sons for the second time, because she wont provide for them... What do I do. I dont want to be un christian but she seems to be a false profit and further more I dont like someone else controlling my household in this way.... Please hepl guide me to the right verses and help me understand what I should do and where I as a christian have the right to draw a line.

I hope that you address your first problem soon. You know what to do there.

Now for your problem that you want to discuss. First remember that he was her son long before he was your boyfriend. You and your boyfriend should set down together and read Matthew 19:4-5, Mark 10:6-7, and Ephesians 5:30-31, then discuss what you feel that in means, and how it applies to your relationship.

This is something you need to go to scripture with, and to a pastor who is truly a man of God. Do the two of you have a pastor?

From my studies, in God's eyes, sex is what makes two one so you are to work as a team. You are married in God's eyes, but not willing to back that up in your world so you are both a bit out of step with the Lord. Sorry for bringing that up, but it is a major part of this if we are trying to see this through God's eyes.

God sees you as married, so you are to honor your mother in law. That is true for a life time, but when we marry, we are to put our spouse ahead of any parent. Scripture says we are to leave the parent and cleave to the spouse.

Also, no authority is over God's authority. She is trying to use her authority to tell you to ignore God, to split the two of you apart on her authority when God says that when we become one with someone, we are not to break that. In the gospels it says that God allows divorce under certain circumstances, but that is only because there is wickedness in the world. Nothing in scripture says that it is fine to break this marriage (in God's eyes) because a parent says to break it.

So, by listening to scripture, you would first need to go for counseling to be sure you both understand what it means when God tells us that the two shall become one. That is a Godly marriage, and having a Godly marriage (even if you haven't honored your marriage in our world) is the first requirement. Next, you will need to work out together how to handle respecting parents and yet standing firm for God when she is asking you not to honor God. You need to do this as one; together.

Many people use 'hearing God' as an excuse to get their way. I've seen it done.

But the real issue here isn't what YOU need to do, it's what your BOYFRIEND needs to do. He either needs to learn to stand up to his mother, tell her to back off and butt out or there will be consequences to her behavior. This is not Your fight so much as His fight. And if your boyfriend is not willing to defend you and stand up for himself, then you need to consider if he's the right man for you.


On a side note, most Christians i have known do not equate sex to marriage. Wrong outside of marriage, yes, as well as living together, but not married for doing so.

We speak to God through prayer and God speaks to us through the bible. It is no longer the case that God speaks directly to a person such as He did with Moses. That is a whole other topic with a long answer and many scriptures, but trust me, because of scriptures I understand that God no longer speaks directly, and there is no favoritism, we are all the same and treated the same, and dealt with the same. If she hears God's voice so too should I and every other Christian- it no longer happens.

When a man grows up and leaves the nest and starts a family of his own, his parents words change from orders to advice. It is good to advise someone in the ways that are right, but not good to force them or to use God as leverage to force them- which seems to be what she's trying to do. We will be judged on whether we chose in our heart to obey God- this is an area she cannot control- the decision has to be from that person.

When Jesus spoke to the woman at the well He said she had many husbands and the guy she's with now is not her husband. Living in fornication is a sin and will never be recognized in God's eyes as excusable. I'm not your judge, you have to decide for yourself, I'm just telling you what God says. A man will never respect and love a girlfriend the he would if she was his wife. I've lived in fornication myself, I know what I'm talking about. But I've since repented and no longer have the burden of that guilt on my shoulders.

If you both, you and your boyfriend are living together and I'm assuming that you are having sex as well, are consider to be in a marriage in God's eyesight. The minute when you have left your parents to be devoted to another which it means that you are married. Abraham have to leave his father's home in order for God to be with him and which that is a marriage and which God never abandon nor forsake whom He promise to be with. So if your mother-in-law is in your affair, just ignore the situation as if it were nothing. Whatever God had joined together, no one will be able to separate it, and even you or him will be unable to separate.

Your boyfriends mother sounds like a nut. Her claims that God is audibly speaking to her is just an attempt to control others, especially when she says, "God told me to tell you". Obviously, God is not carrying on a conversation with her, but I'd tell her that if God has any instructions for her son, to say it directly to him. Your boyfriend should tell his mother that he might be married by now, but that she has caused you to reluctantly live in sin because its preferable to having a scary mother-in-law like her. In fact, he ought to tell her that God told him to tell her that... Fight fire with fire

Prophets always follow God.
A prophet is a person that was given a message for the church when the church is not doing things correctly.
It does not sound like that is her messages,
so,
you can safely tell her she is a false prophet.

Telling her that should safely take care of your relationship.

So you either have to get married or split up.
