I need some good scripture, or any form of godly wisdom, for certain occasions. Sometimes I do volunteer work for my church. When one of the two pastors are around, things are okay. But when not, there's a certain group of older men (I'm 49), these guys are older veterans (prob. in their late 60's and 70's) who know of a time some 25 years ago when I made a drunk butt of myself when a couple of overbearing folks from their area drove me absolutely nuts with their head games. One a woman I dated for a whole month and a half, and two men I worked with. they were utterly ridiculous about their dealings with me, and their boss talked to them about it but it did little good.

What pieces of scripture can I quote calmly and solemnly to disperse this junk? They have the guts to do this in the house of the Lord, no less! someone please help

Three come to mind immediately...

2Co 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Rom 8:33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

Rev 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

"If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.” Luke 15:7

"When they heard these things they fell silent. And they glorified God, saying, “Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life.”" Acts 11:18

"If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.” John 20:23

"In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace," Eph. 1:7

You know, all one has to do is RECITE the Lord's Prayer..............

"forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.........."

Those who do not forgive the trespasses/sins of others WILL NOT have their trespasses/sins forgiven.........right?

ALL OF EPHESIANS 4

[h=1]Ephesians 4 King James Version (KJV)[/h]4 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,

[SUP]2 [/SUP]With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
[SUP]3 [/SUP]Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
[SUP]4 [/SUP]There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
[SUP]5 [/SUP]One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
[SUP]6 [/SUP]One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
[SUP]9 [/SUP](Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
[SUP]10 [/SUP]He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
[SUP]11 [/SUP]And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
[SUP]12 [/SUP]For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
[SUP]13 [/SUP]Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
[SUP]14 [/SUP]That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
[SUP]15 [/SUP]But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
[SUP]16 [/SUP]From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
[SUP]17 [/SUP]This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
[SUP]18 [/SUP]Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
[SUP]19 [/SUP]Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
[SUP]20 [/SUP]But ye have not so learned Christ;

[SUP]21 [/SUP]If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:

[SUP]22 [/SUP]That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
[SUP]23 [/SUP]And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
[SUP]24 [/SUP]And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
[SUP]25 [/SUP]Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

[SUP]26 [/SUP]Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
[SUP]27 [/SUP]Neither give place to the devil.

[SUP]28 [/SUP]Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
[SUP]29 [/SUP]Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

[SUP]30 [/SUP]And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

[SUP]31 [/SUP]Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
[SUP]32 [/SUP]And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Exactly, which is why some get the context of the other scripture wrong. When it says if you withhold the forgiveness, it will be withheld. This does not mean that if you do not forgive that person, he will not be forgiven by our Lord. It means the same as the Lord's prayer; if you withhold forgiving a person, it is your own sins that will be withheld and not forgiven.

You know, all one has to do is RECITE the Lord's Prayer..............

"forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.........."

Those who do not forgive the trespasses/sins of others WILL NOT have their trespasses/sins forgiven.........right?

Hi Jeremy. The situation you described breaks my heart. I wanted to apologize for that group's behavior and how their words and attitudes have been hurting you. I'm so sorry!

Although there's not much you can do about how they choose to treat you, you may find some peace with this: Love those who hate you, bless those who curse you, do good to those who spitefully use you.

Now to pray for you:
Father God, please comfort and heal my brother's heart. For any fiery darts of the enemy that may have lodged in his heart, I ask that you would remove them and pour the oil of your loving-kindness in those wounds and give him peace. Help him to release forgiveness and mercy to those who have hurt him. Strengthen him in his inner man and give him eyes to see those who have sinned against him with Your eyes, Lord. Wash Jeremy clean of any possible lingering embarrassment, shame or condemnation regarding any past behaviors that are now covered in the blood of Jesus.

You can also commit to memory this passage and recite it word for word, when they mock you again:

Luke 18:9-14

9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’

13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’

14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves WILL be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
I even suggest you change the "tax collector" to "drunkard" and the "pharisee" to "veterans" because it would be the same truth even if you do.

Our Savior forgot your past when He came into your heart, his children should strive to do the same; He is our Example, none other. Yahweh, God, bless you and bring you through this once and for all.

when we have a problem with our brother, we must go him/her/them,
and speak openly about the problem.

we are to do everything possible to reconcile and also to forgive.

it's really not about 'them' but about 'us' and our refining and it is
a ways and means for us to get a good look at ourselves and where
we are in our walk.

Jesus' heart is something that we all, who love Him, want to
experience inside of ourselves, and when we are blessed
enough to feel this precious love, we can learn to do the right thing
in each and every situation.

are there times when we are to 'shake the dust' off of our feet?
Yes there is, but, we should never shake the dust off in pride.

Jeremy, I'm sorry to hear of this. :(

I heard a pastor relate a story once of how he was going back to his hometown to pastor a church there.
As he traveled, he remembered that when he was in high school, he used sarcasm to mock other students.
He became nervous, as now he was to represent God to those in his town.

The first sermon he preached included a heartfelt admission and apology, asking for forgiveness.
He said he knew he had been a jerk back then, but that God had changed him and made him new.
He asked for a chance to show the folks in that town it was true.
And asked for word to be passed, and anyone invited to see him personally about it,
so he could ask forgiveness personally.

Now, I realize this man had actually wronged the students he made fun of. (you haven't)
But I just wanted to suggest, there's something in us that needs to be justified.
We (and I'm talking to and about myself, here) feel a need to stand up for ourselves when we have been wronged.
God in Christ has completely and forever justified you, and given you everything you need. :)
You have God's good opinion, or as scripture says,
So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” (Heb, 13:6)

If I were you, I'd be worried about what this gossip is making other people think of me.
:eek:
You may not be feeling like that, so please forgive me if I overstep?
But maybe, going to these people and admitting you made a "drunk butt' of yourself,
but that the Father has graciously forgiven you and made you different.
Ask if they don't see a difference in you, now.
Ask for their forgiveness if you offended them?
Ask them to please stop speaking of you in that manner.

I humbly suggest that might accomplish more than using the Word of God against them.
I know, I know, they are wrong. (they are!)
And if that doesn't work, Matt. 18:15,16 can be followed.

That's just my two cents, and we all know what that's worth!
:rolleyes:
I hope I haven't offended you, and we may be friends.
I have prayed for you, and wish you well, whatever course of action you take.

grace to you, and peace,
ellie
ps--I hope you find solace in Psalm 25 ♥

1Corinthians 13:11-13, When i was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity(Love).
