There are 2 events we are being "saved" from.

They are 1) Physical death, and 2) Spiritual death

Physical death is when our body and spirit are separated and our body dies and is buried in the grave to await the resurrection. Jesus Christ "saves" us from eternal physical death by providing the way to uniting the body and the sprit again into a new and perfect resurrected body. We live again, never to die the physical death again and our body will be for eternity uncorruptible and perfect.

Jesus does this for us because he loves us and wants us to be like him and with him. The "saving" of the physical body is what Paul is talking about when he says that "we are saved by grace, not of works lest we boast". He is right, there are no amount of good works that you can do that will help you resurrect yourself. It is only by the grace of Jesus Christ that you are "saved" from eternal physical death. Eternal life is an unconditional gift from Jesus Christ that "saves" us from eternal physical death.

Spiritual death is being separated from God and Jesus Christ. This death happens if we do not hear and do what the Lord has taught us. "Saving" us from this death requires some participation on our part. It will not be unconditional. For instance we must hear the word and believe it. We must hear about Jesus and believe he is our Savior. In this day and age, this is no small problem. There is so much information that is blasting us in the face about this God or that God and this is the way to Paradise, come follow me, that we can be confused. Satan has layed an incredible trap for God's children with all the counterfeits these days. For those fortunate enough to hear about Jesus, then we have to pray and ask God if it is true and then the Holy Sprit can witness to us that it is true. With this witness you begin a new and faithful life in Christ.
The results of this new life will be a passion for not only loving the Lord, but doing as he has taught. By living the law of Christ, we have a much fuller life on earth in our Christian walk and we store up rewards in heaven, so that our eternal walk with God will be much more fulfilling.

Even though we participate in this "saving" process, we cannot do enough good works to wash away all our sins. So again it is Jesus that shed his blood on the cross that ultimately paid the final payment that washes us clean and "saves" us from this spiritual death and allows us into heaven. It is after all that we can do that Jesus looks upon us with mercy and brings us home with him. But if you are not faithful and bear fruit for the kingdom of God we will suffer spiritual death. That is why there are so many scriptures that admonish us to good works. It is important that we are about our Father's business, just like his Son Jesus Christ.

Jesus "saves" us from both deaths, one is unconditional (physical death), the other is conditional (spiritual death). So let us all be about our Father's business and do well and be "saved"

To johnluke, thank you for your explanation of "death" ,Physical and spiritual. What you say is true; But it is only half true. Both deaths have two sides. Our side and Gods side. Making a life, a baby, and staying alive is our duty and being saved is. partly, our duty. Both Physical and spiritual life is our responsibly. and God's giving life and keeping us a live, and in the end raising our death bodies is true; And,spiritually God gives us life and keeps us alive to eternal life. Both physical and spirtlual life are both Unconditional and conditional in nature. Hoffco

1. Foreknown

Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. Rom. 3:24.

8-2. Out of All Condemnation.
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Rom. 8:1.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. John 5:24.
But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world. 1 Cor. 11:32.

14-VII. Free from the Law:

2. "Delivered from the Law."
But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter. Rom. 7:6.
But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. Gal. 3:25.
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. Rom. 6:14.

15-VIII. Children of God:

1. "Born Again."
Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. John 3:7.
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. John 1:12.
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 1 Pet. 1:23.

2. "Quickened," or Made Alive.
And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins. Eph. 2:1.
And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses. Col. 2:13.

3. "Sons of God."
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 1 John 3:2.
And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. 2 Cor. 6:18.
For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. Gal. 3:26.

4. "A New Creature."

And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith. Phil. 3:9.

18-2. Sanctified Positionally [positionally set apart in Christ].
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption. 1 Cor. 1:30.
And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Cor. 6:11.
(This is in no way to be confused with experiential sanctification as mentioned in John 17:17, or the final perfection of the believer as mentioned in Eph. 5:27 and 1 John 3:3.)

19-3. "Perfected for ever."
For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Heb. 10:14.

20-4. Made accepted in the Beloved.
To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. Eph. 1:6.
Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 1 Pet. 2:5.

21-XI. Justified:

23-XIV. Delivered from the Powers of Darkness:
Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son. Col. 1:13.

1. Partners with Christ in Life.
When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. Col. 3:4.
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 1 John 5:11-12.

2. Partners with Christ in Position.
And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Eph. 2:6.

3. Partners with Christ in Service.
God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord. 1 Cor. 1:9.

For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building. 1 Cor. 3:9.

We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain. 2 Corinthians 6:1.

Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. 2 Cor. 5:20.

For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. 1 Pet. 2:20.

Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. 1 Pet. 4:12-13.

That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto. 1 Thess. 3:3.

For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Rom. 8:18.

Such is the work which is now fully accomplished in and for the lowliest sinner who has believed on the Lord Jesus Christ. It is all superhuman and God alone could do it: nay, if man could even have any part in that work it would at that point of contact be imperfect, and therefore be blasted and ruined forever. These marvels of grace constitute

that "good work" which He has but begun in those who trust Him.

To this much more is yet to be added according to Phil. 1:6.
"He that hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ."

The "riches of grace" are the beginning; the final presentation in glory in the likeness of Christ will be the completion. Such a final perfection and such an eternal being is the greatest divine undertaking for the one who has been lost in sin. Nothing less than this would satisfy the infinite love of God. That He might thus be free to satisfy His boundless love for us He met all the issues of sin for a lost and ruined world, and so perfectly has He wrought that man need now but believe and thus receive the bounty of His grace. It is "grace [reigning] through righteousness."

"For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all. O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen." Rom. 11:32-36.

As to what we get in salvation, the list is incredible. Chafer made a list of 33 things, which I count as 46.
When I read them I am more than warmed, I am overwhelmed.

I stand amazed in the presence

And wonder how He could love me,
A sinner condemned, unclean.

How marvelous,
How wonderful,
And my song shall ever be;
Oh how marvelous, O how wonderful,
Is my Savior's love for me.
