A Reminder that Jesus said:

Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Proverbs 28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

Gill's commentary Good Read.

He that covereth his sins shall not prosper,.... God may cover a man's sins, and it is an instance of his grace, and it is the glory of it to do it, but a man may not cover his own: it is right in one good man to cover the sins of another, reproving him secretly, and freely forgiving him; but it is wrong in a man to cover his own: not that any man is bound to accuse himself before a court of judicature, or ought to expose his sins to the public, which would be to the hurt of his credit, and to the scandal of religion; but whenever he is charged with sin, and reproved for it by his fellow Christian, be should not cover it, that is, he should own it; for not to own and acknowledge it is to cover it; he should not deny it, which is to cover it with a lie, and is adding sin to sin; nor should he justify it, as if he had done a right thing; nor extenuate or excuse it, or impute it to others that drew him into it, as Adam, which is called a covering transgression, as Adam, Job 31:33; for such a man "shall not prosper"; in soul or body, in things temporal or spiritual; he shall not have peace of mind and conscience; but, sooner or later, shall feel the stings it; he shall not succeed even in those things he has in view by covering his sins; he shall not be able to cover them long, for there is nothing covered but what shall be revealed; if not in this life, which yet often is, however at the day of judgment, when every secret thing shall be made manifest; nor shall he escape the shame and punishment he thought to avoid by covering it, as may be observed in the case of Achan, Joshua 7:11; in short, he shall have no mercy shown him by God or man, as appears by the antithesis in the next clause;

but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy; who confesses them to men privately and publicly, according to the nature of the offences, from whom they find mercy; but not to a priest, in order for absolution, which no man can give; sin is only in this sense to be confessed to God, against it is committed, and who only can pardon it; and though it is known unto him, yet he requires an acknowledgment of it, which should be done from the heart, with an abhorrence of the sin, and in the faith of Christ, as a sacrifice for it; and it is not enough to confess, there must be a forsaking likewise, a parting with sin, a denying of sinful self, a leaving the former course of sin, and a quitting the company of wicked men before used to, and an abstaining from all appearance of evil; as is and will be the case, where there is a true sight and sense of sin, and the grace of God takes place: and such find "mercy", pardoning grace and mercy, or pardon in a way of mercy, and not merit; for though the sinner confesses and forsakes it, it is not that which merits pardon and mercy in God, who is rich in it, delights in showing it, and from whom it may be hoped for and expected by all such persons; see Psalm 32:5. So the Targum and Syriac version, God will have mercy on him.

God Bless

Repentance is forsaking and turning from what you believe and have trusted in outside the will and righteousness of God. The Jews did not believe that the Messiah had come through the person of Jesus. Many of them at the preaching of Peter had to repent of their unbelief and believe and get baptized unto Christ to receive the Holy Spirit. Many who trust in their own righteousness have to repent and turn from it unto the righteousness of God to be saved. Many justify their own moral rectitude and uprightness and have gone in a way that seems right unto them, but they must repent and turn from that way and accept the way of the cross. Many have trusted in the light and understanding of false religions that must be repented of as they turn to the light of the glorious gospel unto salvation. All of these reveal the blindness and the power of darkness in the heart that must be repented of by allowing the grace of God through the light of the gospel to enter in and convert the soul through God's eternal redemption.

repentance...

another word whose definition has changed...

sincerity is nie but no necesary

repentance means to never do it again...

irepentance is a gift of Jesus who gives us
first the desire to change
then the prayer to ask
then the power to break the sin forever and remove it from our lives forever

you could have repented from a sin years ago and didnt know it

the last time you did the sin and prayed about it that is when you repented

another example

repentance is that moment when you decide
Im never doing that again

that is true repentance

to be forgiven of ANY sin you HAVE to repent

you go to Jesus
tell him I dont ever want to do that again
and you ask forguiveness and he forgives you
and your done

that sin is gone forever

if you break your relation and go BACK and sin again
well
you never repented cause your still doing it and you are not forgiven cause your still doing it

once you are forgiven and repent
it isnt happening again.

so you are cathlic and sin every week and pray ev ery unday for gforgivenss
are you foriven?
no

you think you are, but you keep sinnning

so what do you do if you keep sinning?

well

go ask for real repentance and the power to stop it forever and he will give it to you
then you get forgiven and you never do the sin again

you see how the false doctrine of once saved always saved would prevent repentance?
get it?
you dont think you even need to stop anything or ask for repentance cause
jesus died...

so you dont repent so you dont pray and so you dont stop

and so you dont get in and you dont get a new character and you dont get victory over any sin at all

and you will be one of these

Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that keep on sinning and sinning and sinning.
Mat 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
Mat 7:25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
Mat 7:26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
Mat 7:27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

Repentance is not confined to violating the 10 commandments or the law. Repentance deals with turning from sin within and from all those things that have influenced us through the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life, which includes any knowledge or understanding that does not come from God in this present evil world. Repentance is progressive and active in that when we come under conviction of the word through the Spirit, we receive grace and turn from those things we are being reproved of. We are being transformed through the renewing of our mind through the word and the Spirit so that we are no longer conformed to this world. Peter is a prime example of this type of conversion and how the Lord dealt with him through grace. The woman caught in the act of adultery was rid of her accusers, not condemned and given grace by the Lord before he told her to go and sin no more. When we turn little by little from all these things that we are convicted of through the Spirit, then we know that we have been turned because our mind has been transformed and we no longer need or depend on those things we once trusted in.
