I wouldn't say that God "broke the covenant" as much as He "fulfilled" the covenant. Most of the covenants between God and "man" had blessings and curses. Blessings if the covenant was kept and curses if it was not kept. Jesus broke the curse "side" of the covenant. He satisfied the fulfillment
