I am a service tech for heating and a/c and we regularly maintain and fix systems in the latter day saints churches around my area and i took it upon my self to look at one of their books of mormon today.
I have heard ramblings of this religion from all sorts of people and just wanted to take a peak at what all the talk is about, so i just read over the beginning of the book if mormon where it explains the basis of their religion.

I was shocked at some of the findings.
I did not memorize any of it but will try my best here...apparently a man named mormon took the teachings of jesus christ, taught it to his son moronai and then moronai added some of his own stuff to it and sent it up to god for safe keeping. Then in like 1836 i think it was, moronai was resurrected and called down the teachings from heaven and gave them to a prophet named joseph smith which were no less on metal tablets, and from there joseph smith had like 8 and then 5 wittnesses to verify the tablets were real (don't recall the exact number of wittnesses but it was something close to that) Then it went on to name the wittnesses and from there they went out to teach these in the americas.

I will leave off there because i couldn't read on any further due to the fact i was working and had stuff to do.
I am looking for anyone who might know this a little better than i do, as i am not a mormon and maybe someone out there might have studied this or even been part of this church before to kind of give some insight.
From what i gathered, these people say they believe in jesus christ but are using their own belief system in doing so and not really following the bible. I am just curious about this really because here i am in these peoples church surrounded by all of this and cannot get past the feeling that they are making up their own rules and not following the word of god. making me feel unclean being there really and it is to the point that i may be asking my employer that i not return to these places because i don't want a debate or something negative coming of this, especially since they say we are required to call these people brother or sister, which is something i luckily have not yet had to encounter.

I don't really know but some thoughts would help, and lets try to keep it clean and not turn into a bashing section.

believing in Jesus Christ also means believing and keeping Christ's and the apostle's doctrine who founded the Catholic Church. So no, Mormons, or any denomination (e.g. so called "liberal" churches that accept homosexuality etc) don't believe in Christ, if they don't keep the doctrine of Christ and the apostles

2Jn 1:9 Everyone transgressing and not abiding in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ, he has both the Father and the Son.
2Jn 1:10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house, nor speak a greeting to him.

While the Mormons claim that they use the Bible, they add other books to it.

For instance they claim that the Book of Mormon is ANOTHER testament of Christ.

They also depend on The Pearl of Great Price and Doctrines and Covenants.

Mormons teach and practice proxy baptism (ie, baptizing for the dead).

They believe that God the Father was once a man and that we can all become gods as well.

Mormonism teaches that Jesus and Lucifer were spirit brothers.

In the early days Mormonism promoted polygamy.

Most evangelicals categorize Mormonism as a cult rather than another denomination.

Mormonism teaches a gospel of works, faith in Christ and adhering to the laws in their "Holy Scriptures".. If you wanna know more about them, check out www.utlm.org, there are some good resources there.

I have a question about Mormonism...

I have several Mormon friends, and a few of them were recently married. I was invited to the receptions, but not the ceremonies. When I asked them why this was, the only explanation they seemed ALLOWED to give was that I'm not part of their religion, and so cannot enter the temple.

What on earth goes on in these ceremonies? Maybe it's nothing weird, but the way they are all so hush-hush about it makes me wonder.

Does anybody have a better explanation?

The temple is only for Mormons in good standing (mostly financially) within the Mormon church, so no "Gentile can go in." Also, the are temple rituals are Masonic in origin and are done when people are "sealed in marriage" and are top secret because they are taken from Masonry and hint of satanic overtones.

Now I know why you Mahogony are so wacked out, you are catholic. Catholicism is just as bad as mormonism. They adhere to the traditions and teaching of men over the truth teachings of scripture.
Matthew 15:7-9
7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,

8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

That's kind of what I was expecting, actually.

It's also very sad and a little scary.

Thanks for the info!

I checked out both sites, still looking at them, actually. You've been a big help; I've been totally confused about Mormonism for a while now.
Thank you again!

Wow.

I'm currently checking out some Mormon websites,

http://www.lds.org

http://www.churchofchrist-tl.org/

And just from skimming through their basic beliefs and histories, I gotta say...Joseph Smith was a very creative man, and he knew the Bible very well.

Mormons have done quite a job of meshing their lies with God's Word. It suddenly makes sense how a non-believer could easily be reeled in, and even how Christians sometimes are, too...

It's really kind of sickening.

H was definitely creative, I think he was demonically inspired personally. If I was to read the Book of Mormon without knowing the Bible, I think I'd be fooled into believing it. As many others would be.

Oh, definitely- I totally agree.

And yeah, I'm sure his 'creativity' was not his own; anyone who had just suddenly decided one day to make up a new religion would not have been nearly so successful at it.

Heh, I'm still on lds.org, reading through their Index of Topics...so far, I've gotten through 'marriage' and 'temples', and I know I'm probably being repetitive, but it's really morbidly fascinating...the lies they tell!

I don't really know why I'm so shocked at what I'm reading/learning. I guess it's partly because I keep thinking of my Mormon friends, and how much they are wasting their gifts by using them to serve a bogus religion.

I object to being called "wacked out" that's offensive.

I'm not Roman Catholic.

I said Catholic Church.

Go learn what Catholic means.

The Jesus of Mormonism is not the Jesus of the Bible. The god of Mormonism is not the God of the Bible

By the way Onwings what do you have against Roman Catholics?

Your anti-Catholic stance seems to be the basis on which you reject a number of doctrines (eg Trinity , baptism) held by most church denominations.

I believe in baptism? and my belief in Oneness has nothing to do with what the Catholics do or do not believe. However I do question why protestants kept some of the false catholic inventions while throwing out most.
