Those who say that water baptism is not necessary for salvation are in error. We all know the scriptures that say to believe on the Lord and ye shall be saved, but it doesn't say anything about "repentance", we all know we can not get into heaven without the remittance of sin. Just because a scripture leaves out a piece of information, does not mean it does not exist.

Here is an example of what I am saying...

This is an account of the exact same event. Only one account offers more information than the other. See if you can spot it:

Matthew 26:51 And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear.

John 18:10 Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.

It was John that had more information. John lists the name of the servant who's ear was smote off, AND lists the name of the person that had drew the sword. We have observed that the other scripture did not mention these facts, but where it is not mentioned does NOT mean that it did not happen. It was simply not mentioned. And, by putting our salvation in "believe on the lord" without any repentance and water baptism, then we would be in serious error.

So then, Is water baptism essential for salvation? Lets ask Peter in Acts 2 ...

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Some say that the above verse really means to baptize into the spirit or unity or authority of Jesus, but lets take a close look at this verse...

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized[SUP]G907[/SUP] every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

The word used is baptized[SUP]G907[/SUP], lets go to the Greek and Hebrew Concordance...

Thayer's Greek Definitions:
G907
baptizo
1) to dip repeatedly, to immerse, to submerge (of vessels sunk)
2) to cleanse by dipping or submerging, to wash, to make clean with water, to wash one's self, bathe
3) to overwhelm

Strong's Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries:
G907
baptizo
bap-tid'-zo
From a derivative of G911; to make whelmed (that is, fully wet); used only (in the New Testament) of ceremonial ablution, especially (technically) of the ordinance of Christian baptism: - baptist, baptize, wash.

Baptism in this verse is water baptism, and it is for the remission of sins.

Peter preached, in Acts 2:38, the Death, Burial, Resurrection as the New Testament plan of salvation...

1. Repent = death
2. Be water baptized = burial
3. Receive Holy Spirit = resurrection

Romans 6:3-4 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized[SUP]G907[/SUP] into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Mark 16:16 "He that believeth and is baptized[SUP]G907[/SUP] shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned."

John 3:5 "Jesus answered, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."

By-the-way, a biblical water baptism is by immersion, it is NOT a sprinkling in the head. the very word baptism comes from the word "baptizo
[SUP][SUB]G907[/SUB][/SUP]" which means to dip, dunk, submerge, fully wet. And, it is in Jesus name.

So why do nearly all denominations baptize in "Father, Son, Holy Ghost"? lets take a quick look...

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Notice it says "name" not names. And, what is the name eluded to? What is the name that the apostles baptized? Lets take a look...

1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Who is this talking about? What is his name? That's right, it is Jesus! And, that is how the apostles baptized.

Anyone knows that "Father" is not a name, "Son" is not a name, "Holy Ghost" is not a name. Ask anyone, what is the NAME of your father?

Your own post upsets your false doctrine. Baptizo is to overwhelm like a sunken ship. If you baptize someone like a sunken ship they are not coming back up for air. Acts 2:38 must be Holy Spirit baptism because it implies submerging long term.

Water baptism requires a raising back up within a brief time period. The Greek bapto is used in these passages.

Your Strongs has a note in it about the pickle recipe that unlocked the application of Baptizo and bapto.

I believe I was saved before I got baptized, but then about a week afterwards, I was obsessed (God did it to me) with getting baptized. I was so obsessed that i called someone to get me to the baptismal tank at a church. I didn't belong to a church. Of course they were a bunch of pharisees and told me that I needed to wait until they got to know me and for a service. I then demanded and said, I NEED TO BE BAPTIZED IMMEDIATELY, and the Holy Ghost fell on them, and I was baptized that night. TRUE STORY!!!:D

The word baptizo means to dip repeatedly, to immerse, to submerge, to cleanse by dipping or submerging,

By your reply you would prefer to go under the water and never come up like a sunken ship? I guarantee that at some point you will very much be insisting upon coming up for air.

You further said, "
Acts 2:38 must be Holy Spirit baptism because it implies submerging long term."

Are you saying the verse implies the following?... "Be Holy Ghost baptized, and ye shall receive the Holy Ghost."

Good luck with that.

God bless!

In Mark 16.16 Jesus said, He that believes (the gospel), and is baptized will be saved. So the question according to this scripture should not be does baptism saves, but how. Jesus here already said it would. This is how baptism saves. Romans 6.3 says Know you not that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ, were baptized into his death. Colossians 2.12 says We are buried with Jesus in baptism, wherein also we are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who has raised him from the dead. Finally in 1Peter3.21 it says, Baptism does also now save us...by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. So when we're baptized, and in Jesus' name according to Acts 2.38, and Acts 19.4,5, Lord, or Christ added to Jesus, his blood wash away our sins, and we're saved by his resurrection. That's why Jesus said, He that believes AND IS BAPTIZED WILL BE SAVED. Jesus said John 3.5 Verily, verily I say to you, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. So Acts 2.38 says, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. That's water and Spirit. Acts 19.5,6 says, When they heard that they should believe on Christ Jesus, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul laid his hands on them the Holy Ghost came on them, and they spoke in tongues. There's water and Spirit again. Jesus said, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. Jesus also said, He that believes AND IS BAPTIZED WILL BE SAVED period. So there you have Biblical Water and Salvation. May God bless you. Amen.
