Where we go, and if we are conscience when we get there, are two different questions.

As far as where we go, that is answered in Luke 16:19-31. It tells us in very great detail. It is either to torment or to Abraham's side.

As far as if we are conscience when we get there, all biblical evidence seems to say yes- that both the righteous and unrighteous are conscience- even though from an earthly viewpoint Jesus says we are asleep. What I think this means is that even though we are unconscience physically speaking, we still exist- even though the body deteriorates. From a nonearthly viewpoint I believe both the righteous and unrighteous are conscience. In Revelation those who were beheaded for their testimony asked God how long before He judges those who did this- unconscience people can't ask questions. In the example of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16, the souls in torment were conscience and able to think, talk, and see. The rich man asked Abraham to have Lazarus dip his finger in water to cool his tongue, I don't think he would ask that if he seen Lazarus unconscience.
Luke 16 is not a parable about the after life, it was teaching this message...

Mat 8:11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 8:12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Christ was showing that the Pharisees, Sadducees and Scribes, who smugly trusted in their lineage, would not be in the Kingdom but rather those whom answered the call to repent.

I do not believe in the death= translation to heaven/hell myth.Gehenna (Hell/Lake of Fire) is not currently in use.Jesus is currently preparing a place for Believers, to be received after the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. These places are put into use AFTER the Judgement.Upon death, the righteous go to Abraham's Bosom/Paradise (not Heaven itself, but a heavenly place),and the unrighteous go to Hades/Taurtarus/Death (not hell itself, but a hellish place).Rest does not equal soul-sleep.
The Bible uses the word BOSOM different than most seems to (ISA. 40:11) but there is no doubt what it relay means. Bible students really have to understand things when the term BOSOM is used (John 1:18), it means Jesus was enjoying the Fathers blessings and close relationship.Moses carried the children of Israel in his bosom (Num.11:12) so do you not see some of what it means. To be in ones BOSOM is to have that ones love and protection, and share his blessings and inheritance Matt.5:5).If we let the Bible interpret the Bible no one can tell us that you know not of what you say, OH they may say it but without support it has no value. In a nutshell when the saints, the born again immortal Christians are living and loving on the new earth after the fires, they are in the BOSOM of God.Mac.

The Bible teaches us of two distinct areas namely the heaven and hell. Heaven where God and the saved will be for a period before they will return to the new earth, and Hell where Satan and all his followers will perish. Death is being viewed as a state of unconciousness or deep sleep but the thoughts will never perish as the unsaved will know what they will be punished for when they are resurrected for destruction.
My bible talks of three Heavens and three "Hells" and that Angels are eternal but we are all free willed and can think and do as we want.Mac.

At the present time, there is only ONE heaven and only ONE hell! Eventually there will come a new heaven and a new earth when the two former are destroyed.

Heaven and hell are mis-spoken stories. There's no floating in the clouds playing harps. There is the gathering of His people when He returns (and it's a whole 'nother subject but I believe when we die we are caught up to that moment). Then we return here, to this world, for 1,000 years. Then this creation is decreated, a new one is created, and life on it is very much as it is now - only this time it will evolve the way it was meant to. There will be nations and commerce and travel and ... well, looking at what all we have here and now, and knowing it is only but 10% of what God created, I can't imagine having the other 90% to explore is going to be anything other than awesome.
You kind of got the story parts OK but I would have talked about the subject in the story of the three resurrections so the readers could see just how things fit together. But I find it best to just point out things so that the readers can do what the Bible teaches. The reader is to check out what has been said and it does not say to have others like the messenger do the work.Mac.

This is just for the people who believe that there is no hell.
  1. The dead unsaved ones will be resurrected.
Rev. 20:13 – “And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast to the lake of fire. This is the second death.
  1. Satan plus the resurrected unsaved gather together for the march towards the New Jerusalem.
Rev. 20:7-9 – “And when the 1000 years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, and shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, God and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.”
  1. Final destruction of Satan and his followers.
Rev. 20:14-15 – “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire, This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Please note that the death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. Zeph. 3:8 – “Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the Lord, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.” 2 Pet 3:12 – “Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat. This is very similar to Noah’s case where the Ark (the saved ones inside) was floating on water and now the New Jerusalem (the saved ones inside) will be floating on the lava. In both cases the unsaved will be totally destroyed. Pretty awesome the intense heat to melt all the elements. This earth will be like a ball of live lava, glowing hot and fire coming down from heaven. That is how this polluted earth, Satan and the non saved will be destroyed. That is the Hell Fire. People who have never seen rain before did not believe Noah when he had instruction from God to build the Ark but he knew God and trusted God and what happened? This whole earth earth was under water and everybody was destroyed except for the saved ones in the Ark. Do you want to take the chance to believe that there will be no destruction by fire? I know I won't.
"The dead unsaved ones will be resurrected " My Bible say all the dead are dead there is no saved or unsaved dead the dead are just dead and do not exist in any form at this time. The surface of the earth will indeed be remade by melt down and a few who rejected God will be tossed into the melt and that is called the second death. Then the Earth with more land then water will have room for all the Saints and they will be living and walking on the ashes of the dead guys just like the Bible says.I skipped over many things sorry but just to many things to talk about.Mac

It's easy to say others are "dreaming" and "reality" will show them the "opposite" of what they believe suggesting they get their belief from "comic strips".Can you give us the real "reality" that lies ahead for we Christians as you see them without simply saying "Read your Bible?"
I understand your reason about more info but "read your Bible" was a fair thing to say because that is what the Bibles teaches. It says to checkout everything and it does not say to ask the messenger to do the work.would you trust just anyone to pack your chute for you I think not so asking a poster well anyhow I think or hope you see what I have said.Mac.

Now some of you have me searching. Is there a passage that leads some to think that Believers go straight to Heaven when they die?Such doctrine makes the Resurrection at the Return of Christ seem more like a step backward.
You are so very correct many are stepping backwards. I have not found any place that says when one dies they are going someplace at that time but the Catholic and Protestants as a whole teach that. Some people receive money because of that teaching therefore they do not want to stop that tradition! greed makes many do bad things.Mac.

The Bible says if you live for Christ,to leave this earth is to be present with the Lord, and Jesus told the thief on the cross today you shall be with Me in paradise, which the soul will be with Jesus and not unconscience. The Bible says that the wicked shall go in to the lower parts of the earth and Jesus told the story of the rich man who asked if Abraham could give him a little water and if he could go talk to his brothers so they would not receive the same fate.
I was so sure that when Jesus died his body went to a grave and not paradise but I have seen some high $ graves but I would not call them Paradise. I truly think Jesus being a mortal human did the same things all humans do and that is they die and they are dead and do not exist till later. You do know that the soul is just the life in a body and cows are souls and dogs are souls all living breathing things are living souls the life in the body is called the soul.God's Spirit that all humans are born with does return to God after death and Jesus was a human when He died and most know the rest of the story.Mac.

If this is the error (soul sleep) you believe, I think you need to go to the Lord Jesus and get some eye salve for your spiritual sight so that you may see! Rev 3v18

Acts 2v24,27 tells us that Christ suffered the pangs of death while in Hades, He could hardly have been aware of this pain if He did not exist!

Hi goodnewsanonomys

A very good question that millions are asking around the world. The Bible’s answerThe Bible says: “The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.” (Ecclesiastes 9:5; Psalm 146:4) Therefore, when we die, we cease to exist. The dead can’t think, act, or feel anything.

“To dust you will return”
God explained what happens when we die when he spoke to the first man, Adam. Because Adam was disobedient, God said to him: “Dust you are and to dust you will return.” (Genesis 3:19) Before God created Adam “out of dust from the ground,” Adam did not exist. (Genesis 2:7) Likewise, when Adam died, he returned to dust and ceased to exist.

The same thing happens to those who die now. Speaking of both humans and animals, the Bible says: “They have all come to be from the dust, and they are all returning to the dust.”—Ecclesiastes 3:19, 20.

Death is not necessarily the end of everything
The Bible often compares death to sleep. (Psalm 13:3; John 11:11-14; Acts 7:60) A person who is fast asleep is unaware of what is happening around him. Likewise, the dead are not conscious of anything. Yet, the Bible teaches that God can awaken the dead as if from sleep and give them life again. (Job 14:13-15) For those whom God resurrects, death is not the end of everything.

At the present time, there is only ONE heaven and only ONE hell! Eventually there will come a new heaven and a new earth when the two former are destroyed.
I like to post in a way that helps one to open their Bible and see if what was said is so but that does not always work out and I have to add more to what I had said. The one heaven and one hell is a popular subject mostly used by the Catholic and Protestant group and I have something that covers such and other things. I truly enjoy leading others to the waters of truth so they can see what I see if it is their time to see. The following is for all to use anyway they feel the need to.

The Heavens and the Hells

I will now lead into the "what is the reward of the saved" subject using as many bible quotes as I can I hope you find this interesting.

The bible talks of three "HELLS" in the N/T #1 Tartaroo #2 Gehenna #3 Hades. Hades or Sheol in the O/T is the grave. Tartaroo is the place for rebellious angels II Pet.2:4. Gehenna the city dumps of Jerusalem where everything from sewage & refuse to the bodies of criminals were burned to get rid of them. Like the dumps the U.S. had in times past they burned trash continuously the fires were always burning up stuff and what did not get burned was eaten by birds, bugs and WORMS (Mark 9:44-48).

The bit about the worms and fire is used by the C&P to wrongly support their torment forever doctrine that they use to scare their followers into line. The verse goes like this "Where the worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched." The hell in this story (mark 9:43-48) is the city dump (Gehenna) and the worms are MAGGOTS and the fires are used to get rid of garbage. some maggots die but most change into flies and if the garbage and dead bodies is replenished the worms will not die as long as food is supplied. The same for the fires as long as fuel is supplied they can't be quenched.

The worms are dead now and the fires have been quenched now BUT how can this be when the bible says otherwise? Glad you asked... "FOREVER" and that type of term is a well misunderstood term with more then one use. It Can mean continuous, so long as the factors involved exist, for example read Lev.25:46, Exo.21:6, Due.15:17, The word forever is #5769 in Strong's Concordance it's the same word used in all these verses. Now are they still slaves or did the factors change when one of the parties died? When connected with God it means time without end (Isa.40:8) . When referring to mortal man it can mean a lifetime (I sam.1:22,28 ). It can mean less then a lifetime, actually only a few days (Jonah 2:6). The factors changed the dump is closed!

Like most of the bible their is two sides to the story therefore this would not be complete without a few words about HEAVEN. Like in the word hell there are three "Heavens" #1 Gen.1:20, Deu.33:28, the place that the airplanes fly. #2 Gen. 1:15-17, the place that our space ships try to fly outer space. #3 II Cor. 12:2 God's Holy Throne. I believe in the HELLS and the HEAVENS of the bible and not the interpretations that most of today's churches sell to the weak in study. No place does the bible teach of a person going to a forever tormenting hell nor to a heaven up yonder!

Think about it the "Christians" talk about a God of love then they turn around and say that the same God is going to punish people in a forever hell of torment!! Talk about a con-job Satan is very good at it because the Catholics and Protestants make it easy for him to do his job!

Some times I do have to stand back to see things in a better light and to be Abel to duck the snow balls. The soul is just the life in a body be it human or animal or even a bug and all souls can and do die, souls only sleep when they are tired I had to say that because I do not know why you added such.

Jesus was a mortal human and He died and was dead for about 72 hours and then God the Father gave Jesus back the Spirit He ans all humans are born with. Jesus became a living breathing human again and later in the story He was changed back into a Spirit being. It is a great story with lots of detail so that the reader can understand what happened but sadly some add or remove parts of the story because it does not fit into what they feel is the story. I can only point one to the water they can drink or just wash their hands with it. OH I almost forgot I do not play verse-ball that game never helps anyone.

I for a second I thought your post was one of mine but your spelling your English told me I did not post such a well done post. it is a very good post a well done job but sadly most readers just won't buy it but that is why the Bible talks of the few and of the many.

Take Care
