1 Corinthians 11:14 "[SUP] [/SUP]Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?"

Why do so called christians insist on drawing pictures of Christ with long hair?

Why not quote the rest of the context...like at the end of the day there is no such custom in the Lord's churches and to not be contentious about it......verses 15 and 16......

You are not understanding this simple passage my friend. Here is one quote that is explicit in it's explanation.

"But if any man seem to be contentious" - ei de tiv dokei filoneikov einai? If any person sets himself up as a wrangler-puts himself forward as a defender of such points, that a woman may pray or teach with her head uncovered, and that a man may, without reproach, have long hair; let him know that we have no such custom as either, nor are they sanctioned by any of the Churches of God, whether among the Jews or the Gentiles. We have already seen that the verb dokein, which we translate to seem, generally strengthens and increases the sense. From the attention that the apostle has paid to the subject of veils and hair, it is evident that it must have occasioned considerable disturbance in the Church of Corinth. They have produced evil effects in much later times.
Adam Clarke's Bible Commentary - 1 Corinthians 11

To say there is not a custom of having shorn hair is to deny the authority of natural laws, or to deny this scripture has any credibility.

I think a possibility could be: they had to make Him more feminine... To discredit Him and make Him seem like every other culture's "god of love"... It could make sense if you remember the reason the Romans made the catholic church merge Christianity and pagan religions together. To create peace and what not...

here is the passage with verses 13,15,and 16 with it... I still think its saying that a man should not have long hair.
13 Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14 Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, 15 but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. 16 If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice—nor do the churches of God.

To quote a commentary to me means nothing...the custom was worldly and not found within the churches.....I could care less what Adam Clarke has to say....no offence meant to you personally

So how does not being contentious about a woman having long hair fit into the MAN and HIS HAIR which is in question?

NOT to mention the vow of a NAZARITE which GOD gave and demanded NO RASOR touch his HEAD=LONG HAIR...or SAMSON and his LONG HAIR???????

So will God save the homeless man who has hair down to his knees or tell him to cut his hair and then save him? I know what the content of this and it involves holiness. But what makes us Holy? Hair, dress, hygiene, church attendance, bible reading, consistent prayer, eating certain things, being polite? answer none of the above, It is our faith in the work of the Cross and not our own, that makes us Holy and righteous before God.

So I figure having long hair is bad for guys? What about the guy who formed the national motorcycle club The Remnant Sons? It's a Christian club my dad belongs too. This guy is also the Chaplin at the Allegheny County jail. Is he saved? Boy I am glad I wear my hair short now.
I only know of one organization that demands that men wear their hair short....I hope you are not one of them.

The NIV Study Bible notes on 1 Cor 11:13-14 "believers must be conscious of how their actions appear in their culture, in light of what is considered to be honorable behavior"
So in our culture today is long hair among Christian men bad? Not in the least bit. And as noted before our hair hygiene ect. Doesn't make us Holy

I quoted Adam Clarke because he worded it clearly, and he comprehends the scripture as it is written. Adam Clarke isn't what you are disagreeing with - it is the bible. That is what the bible says.

Don't get facetious about it. The only thing required for salvation is repentence. After you get saved, do you believe you should be obedient to the word of God?

If you think bible doctrine is based on custom you are sadly mistaken. What exactly, do you think Paul meant when he said that nature teaches us that? You tell me, how long has nature been around, and what custom of man does nature embrace?

Paul also said that a woman's long hair was her glory. so is a lady with shorter hair in sin?
