I certainly did not relate my reflections on scripture to something personal about you until you came up with that idea..............................
You had someone in mind. Scripture tells us to weed out false prophets and confront brothers in error. If you follow the word, seems like you should take this one, or both, of two ways. Private message or name names.
I haven't seen anyone posting here that I would call a "prophet". A prophet predicts(that is what divine revelation means to me), and that prediction is either right or wrong. Someone that spouts false doctrine isn't a false prophet, the way I see it.

You are so right about the word "prophets"! I hadn't thought that one through when I used that word.

However, I don't think your idea of the need to confront brothers with judgments against them is from the Lord. We are to say that something said about God is not from scripture, but I don't think we can attack other people. We are told over and over not to judge others, that even calling someone a fool is wrong. We are to judge right and wrong but never, ever people.

I can say Phil, it is wrong for you to judge someone's standing with the Lord, you may not do that. But I cannot say Phil, you are a fool because of your habit of judging other people.

As we get deep in scripture with a humble spirit so we can freely learn we all see false teachings around us. Some of it is basic to the Lord, for instance teaching that God the creator did not show love in the teaching in the Old Testament.God IS love, to teach that scripture shows God isn’t love is a major distortion of God.This particular distortion is not what I would like you to comment on, but what to do about distortions we see.I point to one as an example.

Most of us have spotted glaring errors in understanding that is part of today’s church. Some of us say it has to do with a denomination of the church and post on and on about the entire denomination.

Most of these posts point out what they think are errors, few comment on the way scripture says it should be. If they do try, often they use a few scriptures without making those scriptures fit in with the rest of scripture.Posts on works are notorious for this, especially by listing anything to say works are no good.It is only one example.Posts by people who have done thorough studies of a subject so they know all the teachings of a subject are usually waved aside. They can’t post an entire study, one sided ones can post a few scriptures on the one side, and distortions only are brought out.

Do you have any suggestions about what God would have us do it help teach God to the world?
As to your question here, what can we do? how do we disern? what can we teach so others can disern?
I didnt read through the whole thread, so forgive me if I repeat another. :)

We all know to test all spirits in Jesus Christ is Lord come in the flesh, as Paul tells us to do so.
This is an important tool we have been given.

Also, all should be able to be confermed by scripture.
For the scripture does not change, and any word given, scripture should support it.

We should also know the differance between prophacy and knowladge.
Im still learning about this . :)

But the most important disernment, is wether the message given is more about the person who claims to be a prophet?
Or is that which is given, about the message.
For like Paul said, such is given to build up and edify the body, the church.
For this is what matters, the message, not who gave it.

Saddly today we see more and more, some who claim to be christian prophets, who build up them selves, rather than focusing on the word.

What matters is the message, and what we are called to do,which is to test all in Jesus Christ in Lord come in the flesh.
For it is not about who gives the message, but the message given that matters.

In Jesus, God bless
