Romans 8:15 says 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[a] And by him we cry, “Abba,[b] Father.”

Its a joy to be loved and adore by our Lord Christ and know that God created us. I had no father figure in my life, of course that was the plan and I call God my father because he created me and knows everything about me, but I have trouble understanding this scripture saying that I am adopted. I am a very emotional and dependent young woman and lean on God as a daughter should and that word "adoption" makes me feel separated from him, like I never belong to my father in the first place. Why does this scripture say that we are adopted by God as if we were not created by him. No matter if we are following God or not, We all come from him right ?

We all came from God, from the standpoint of creation generally, but we are separated from Him by our sin, God being completely righteous, holy, alienation from Him by our sin, and payment for that sin required. We can only have communion with God, who is Spirit, by being born of His Holy Spirit, which the grace of the Lord and faith in the Lord Jesus, His blood that atones for our sins, allows us to become children of God, as opposed to sinful children living of the flesh, not by the Spirit, or children of Satan, by default. So, as long as we are dead in sin, we are not children of God, hence we are adopted into God's family only when we come to Jesus Christ in repentance and faith, to be born again of the Spirit. But I would not equate this with the human adoption situation, from the standpoint all are adopted into God's family, apart from the Lord Jesus, nobody else born by the power of the Holy Spirit, so it's not as if there are those who were born of God directly, versus adopted. Even the Old Testament relationship with Israel became no longer exclusive through Christ's work, rather the calling of God came to all mankind,

Galatians 3:25-29 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

It seems that maybe you have an issue with not being "the real thing" some adopted here on earth, by earthly parents, feel, that they're not quite really family children? This is most often untrue, but the case with God is that He is not playing favorites of people for some situation of birth, social status or the like, inequalities that may exist in man's eyes, for sinful man's pride of life, but there is equality in the eyes of God,

Acts 10:34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons.

Hope this is helpful to you.

We are adopted through the new birth receiving a change of nature and are now co-heirs with Christ.
The word adoption used then has much more to it than as it is used today.
