And if you guys would like a mainstream Christian source for miracles that are happening, buy some books or even support a missionary from Gospel For Asia and you will be FLOODED with news of miracles that are happening in India. There's also Advancing Native Missions, Vision Beyond Borders (ministry to the persecuted), and a number of other organizations that are pretty well known. The story that I told was actually from Advancing Native Missions.
I think the reason why we do not live lives that are full of the power of God is because we don't trust Him. We don't even have any reason to. We have savings accounts, retirement accounts, insurance, freedom to go to church (and we don't like to evangelize outside of church), plenty of food so we'll never starve, plentiful access to water--as such we do not desperately seek God nor do we even want to. We just want to go on with life as normal. But God doesn't call Christians to live normal lives.

How did "torture" get into this conversation? I think the idea of Christians being forbidden from using self defense comes from applying scriptures of suffering for the gospel to suffering in any situation.
"But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer... Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed..." 1 Pet.4:15-16

Does the wind blow in the direction of sin?
In a vacant lot weeds automatically pop up.
The flesh lusts vs the Spirit.
Is there an autopilot in the Christian life?
Or are we like Peter, in process of sinning the moment we stop exercising faith in Christ in our situation?
Does folly come natural to the Christian, so that he must ever be praying for wisdom (James 1) to escape that folly?

I never denied that believers will not face persecution. Both God's people and ubelievers experience bad and good things in this life For believer's will be persecuted (Matthew 5:44); And God sends rain on the just and unjust (Matthew 5:45). In fact, go back and read what I wrote. I already mention that a Christian will be persecuted. This actually disproves the idea that we are to fight back physically so as to harm another. For we are to live as Christ lived. We are to pick up our cross and deny ourselves. Christ suffered for us and set an example for us to follow (1 Peter 2:21). Nowhere did Jesus ever fight back when he suffered for us.

Paul was protected from the bite of a snake. Paul was protected when he was ship wrecked. The young man who had fell out the window was brought back from the dead by Paul. Paul was able to get up the next day and leave after having been stoned and presumed dead.
