To experience true victory there has to be forward progress. Taking The Long way around just means you have more victories to add to your resume; God will see to it. 1 Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

The entire 15th Chapter of 1 Cor. is a wonderful chapter telling us how through Christ we not only conquer death, but we conquer sin in our life. Here is the concluding verse: 1Co 15:58 Therefore, my dear brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord's work, knowing that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Personally, I am up very early wondering how I can manage what sin in the lives around me has brought about for me. And in Corinthians is the answer, I can both draw apart from the sin with the armor of the Lord around me, and I can find ways to give of the Love like the Savior gives.

There is no need for me to descend into "Ain't it just terrible" sort of thing, Christ raises me so it doesn't have to be part of my life. The Lord gives free will to everyone including me, I am to do the same to those around me. The Lord gives love to the person, even the person who is sinning. I am to do the same. The Lord gives comfort and solace to those who draw close to Him and overcomes. In that is victory.

The Apostle John was taken the long route at around age 90 while the Apostle james was not, yet they were brothers...

Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church. And he killed James the brother of John with the sword. (Act 12:1-2)
