His suffering is clearly described in Isaiah 53. I'll need to consult my study bible to check the rest.

The closest reference to this statement in the OT other than the prophesy of Jonah which Jesus connects to his resurrection would have to be Isaiah 53:10, "But the LORD was pleased To crush Him, putting Him to grief; If He would render Himself as a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, And the good pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand." The statement "This is how it is written," seems to be a combination of these two texts.

Third Day Events In the following passages, notice what occurs on Yom Shlishi, the Third Day.
1) On the third day — "the earth brought forth vegetation: seed-bearing plants of every kind, and trees of every kind bearing fruit." (Genesis 1:12)
2) On the third day — "Abraham looked up and saw the place [Mount Moriah] from afar." There he intends to offer his son Isaac as a burnt offering to God. Yet he assures his companions, "We will worship and return." (Genesis 22:4-5)
3) On the third day — Pharaoh releases his chief cupbearer from death-row. (Genesis 40:20-21)
4) On the third day — Joseph releases his brothers from prison in Egypt. (Genesis 42:17-18)
5) On the third day — The Israelites request Pharaoh's permission to make a three-day journey to offer sacrifice in the desert to God. (Exodus 3:18)
6) On the third day — Plague Nine, the Plague of Darkness, in Egypt ends, "though the Israelites enjoyed light in their dwellings." (Exodus 10:22)
7) On the third day — God descends to Mount Sinai in fire with the sound of a shofar. He then reveals The Ten Words, Israel's constitution of new life as a nation after their resurrection from the death of slavery in Egypt. (Exodus 19:16-19)
8) On the third day — Israelites are to purify themselves with water after being in contact with the dead. (Numbers 19:12)
9) On the third day — After coming to the river and preparing themselves, the Israelites cross the Jordan "to enter and possess the land that the LORD [their] God is giving to [them] as a possession." (Joshua 1:11; 3:2)
10) On the third day — Joshua's spies emerge from hiding from the Jerichoites, then return to their commander. (Joshua 2:16, 22)
11) On the third day — after asking God for release, King Hezekiah is healed of his fatal disease and offers thanks in the temple. (2 Kings 20:5)
12) On the third day — Jonah is expelled from the fish belly. (Jonah 1:17/2:1 Heb) (Matt 12:40; cf. Matt 16:21; 17:23)
13) On the third day — After fasting, Esther puts on royal apparel and enters the palace of the Persian king in order to thwart a death-plot against her people, the Jews. (Esther 4:16; 5:1)

Jesus used Jonah as a type...Matthew 12:39-40 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth...
...but written in a specific manner? hmmm

Luke 24:27
Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.

Luke 24:44
Now He said to them, “These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”

I don't think we'll find the answer on one verse or passage of the OT.
Jesus was showing them all the things concerning Himself,
or, as one pastor puts it, that all the scriptures tell one story and point to one Person.

here jesus is apparently not directly quoting any written prophecy but referring to the message of the sum total of all messianic prophecy...

We must first put it in its proper context in order to find it in the OT. Are you looking for it to say He will die on a Wednesday Thursday or Friday as the shadow depicts, or it's meaning in the broader and true sense when dealing with the world as a whole?

Luke 13

31 The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee.

32 And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.

33 Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.

34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!

35 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Here again is a reference to the 3 days Jesus mentions. The problem is that we look for it in literal days and not what Christ intended by the parable. This is not literal but about the 6000 years or 6 days of man.

In Daniel we find that the messiah is cut off in the middle of the week. We also have this.

Hosea 6

6 Come, and let us return unto the Lord: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.

2 After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.

3 Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.

That's a good question. Maybe, however, it wasn't the Old Testament this was derived from? If you can't find it in the OT then perhaps there was a different source.

just-me, this is good and relevant analysis. Thank you.

The context of Luke 24:46 is Resurrection Sunday. Earlier in the same day, the resurrected Jesus opened the Old Testament story to two disciples on the road to Emmaus. Here, he opens the Old Testament Scriptures to a gathering of the apostles.

Jesus had linked the miracle of Jonah to himself earlier in Luke 11:29: This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonah the prophet.

The story of Jonah is told in the Old Testament. Jonah had been three days inside the large fish but emerged alive. Jesus had been killed and his body resided inside the tomb for three days but He emerged alive. Jesus gave the sign of Jonah the prophet when he arose alive from a fatal situation after three days.

The "thus it is written" may refer to the sweeping overview of the Old Testament that the resurrected Jesus had just given in the previous verse, v.45, "Then opened He their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures."

We all have more to learn.

Prayer: May Almighty God open the understanding of us all.
