What's everyone's views on hell houses? I know a lot of churches put them on around Halloween time. I've never visited one but one of my sister's friends went to one and was completely freaked out by it. NOT because she was scared of any of the depictions of hell (she thought the effects were kind of lame) but because the church actually locked the door on her and the rest of the crowd and wouldn't let them leave until they said that they were saved. They basically forced these people to lie about their salvation before they would let them leave. Is this normal for hell houses? Was this just a church racking up a salvation count and not caring how sincere the conversions actually were? I hope this isn't a normal practice. My sister's friend isn't a Christian and neither is my sister and this just reinforced their negative perceptions of Christianity.

This would be pure Pelagianism at it's peak...like I said, despicable.

It was upsetting to hear about. Like I said I hope that this isn't standard practice in some churches.

I have never heard of a hell house either. It does not sound like something I would want to go do. I agree with djness. File imprisonment charges..

I believe Hell houses in general are unbiblical for the Scriptures say we are to avoid having any appearance of evil.

i have never heard of this and it sounds really disturbing...

also a scary hellfest would seem to go directly against the biblical command to think on things that are good and holy...

I have a hard time believing that happened. That is a felony, on several levels.

The way Christendom is going these days it will be commonplace amongst churches in about 5 years.
We are sometimes the world's biggest imitators, never wanting to look 'uncool' or 'different'.

Hell House is a sort of huanted house maze that you walk through and see different scenes of bad thing happeneing to people and in the last scene all these people find Christ, accept him into their hearts and get saved. Its the church's way to reach out to people and an alternative to a haunted house. They sort of "wintess" to you at the end and ask you if you want to be saved.
Its not that great. If you really want to have fun, go to a real haunted house.

This type of house is one to avoid. I would consider changing churches too.

Worldly methods never accomplish a Spiritual objective. There is a way that seemeth right unto men but the end thereof is death. Pure folly and any church that associates itself with this kind of stuff is offensive to Christ.

There is a great documentary on a Hell House, I think it's available on NetFlix instant. If you ever wanted to see one, check it out. I would love to find a Hell House to visit, just out of curiosity but there aren't many to find in Southern California. Los Angeles had one years ago but it was more a parody then a real one. Any suggestions on how to find one?

I would be happy to think they were exaggerating. It would make me feel better about the whole thing. That's the one thing that bothered me the most when they were telling me about it.
