reiterated in 1John 4:1
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try [test] the spirits whether they are of God:
because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

This gift equips the Pentecostal disciple to pray in tongues about other
teachings and doctrines, or to lay hands on a book and pray about the
contents - the Holy Spirit will reveal any falsehoods or will confirm the
truth of such.
This is an important gift of safety and helps keep Pentecostal saints on
the narrow path that leads to life.

13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into
the apostles of Christ.
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as
the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
2Corinthians 11:
great bible verses and for that i thank you.

however i totally disagree with your understanding of what the gift of discernment of the spirits is.

what you describe IS A GIFT from God. its called discernment and I do believe it allows you to discern falsehood and truth.

we will not ever agree on the speaking in tongues topic, do you mind if we move past it and talk on other topics?

i will use my next post (patience cuz it might take a while cuz i am going to pray silently before posting) to describe what God has revealed to me so far of what the discernment of spirits means.

short version: its the ability to see angels and demons. the ability to see into the Spirit realm. to see people as trees like the man when Jesus first gave him back his sight..he saw the spirit, then he saw the world as most everyone else without the gift sees it.

Gifts from God a topic that gets a lot of attention. When I look back over the years it is one of the Christian topics that is always a favorite topic. This I know, discernment is not automatic like waving some spiritual magic wand. To discern spiritually one must mature in Christ. Therefore, each day a believer walks with our Lord, studies their Bible, I mean really study it to understandit, it is then that we find ourselves learning God's way, His thinking, etc. Apart from a consistent saturation of God's word where we study it to know who the author is, the audience is and the themes of each book litterly in its historical setting discernment will be missed. In the end discernment can never be contrary to God's word and if we don't know God's word we surly don't have discernment. Where else can we know the mind of Christ, to understand What, Where, When, How, and Why about God and His program and plan apart from God's word, of course that is a rhetorical question. Quoting verses is not wisdom, or discernment, but understanding a verse in its context literally leads to a correct understanding therefore discernment.
