We are given a clue, as to where Israel is today, by Jacob (Israel) himself in Genesis chapter 49. “And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days” (Genesis 49:1). Did you catch that, in the last days? Now we see the 10 lost tribes seemingly without an identity, but God knows who and where they are. Jacob was prophesying with the influence of the Holy Spirit. Let’s see what he had to say about the sons of Joseph: “Joseph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well; whose branches run over the wall: The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and hated him: But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob; even by the God of thy father, who shall help thee; and by the Almighty, who shall bless thee with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lieth under, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb: The blessings of thy father have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills: They shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him that was separate from his brethren. All these are the twelve tribes of Israel: And this is it that their father spake unto them, and blessed them; every one according to his blessing he blessed them” (Genesis 49:22-26,28). This was the birthright promise Jacob was passing on to the sons of Joseph.

A similar prophecy was given to Abraham right after he was tested, by offering Isaac as a burnt offering. You recall that an angel stopped Abraham, right before he put the knife to him? “And the angel of the Lord called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: And he said, here am I. And he said, lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: For now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me. And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: And Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: As it is said to this day, in the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.” (Genesis 22:11-14). Jehovah-Jireh means the Lord will provide, or Lord provider. Now the promise: “And the Angel of the Lord called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time, and said, by myself have I sworn, saith the Lord, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice” (Genesis 22:15-18). Now let’s put all this together. You see a blessing of a nation and a company of nations passed to Joseph’s sons. This great multitude of people are to possess the “gates” (Fenton translation) of his enemies. This blessing was also passed to Isaac’s wife, Rebekah. “And they blessed Rebekah, and said unto her, thou art our sister, be thou the mother of thousands of millions, and let thy seed possess the gate of those which hate them” (Genesis 24:60). I purpose that Ephraim is Great Britain, and Manasseh is the United States of America. It was during the latter 18th century, when Britain rose to world dominance, with their navy controlling most of the seaways. The United States rose to a world power after the war with Spain, circa 1898. What other countries controlled the world’s sea gates: Suez, Gibraltar, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Africa’s horn, The Falklands, Panama Canal, Puerto Rico and Guam. I know this isn’t a popular concept to put forth, but the implication is unmistakable. Would God exclude two of the greatest world powers in His prophecies of the last days? I think not! Even the very name of the British held on to some of their Hebrew identity: Covenant in Hebrew is “Beriyth” or “bryth”; the Hebrews did not use vowels in spelling. The “y” has an “i” sound in Hebrew; with the “h” being silent in Hebrew (also an English trait); therefore “brit” means covenant, and “ish” means man. So British means covenant man.

The British Commonwealth and the United States of America call themselves Christians, but they have not obeyed all of God’s ordinances. They not only lost their identity, they lost God’s true sabbath. The seventh day sabbath was a “sign” of their covenant with God. “Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed” (Exodus 31:16,17). Instead, they have always kept the first day sabbath they were handed through tradition. Remember, the sabbath is one of God’s Ten Commandments. What happens to people that obey God? Consider these blessings: “Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: For I am the Lord your God. Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the Lord. If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them; then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit. And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: And ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely. And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: And I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land. And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword. And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: And your enemies shall fall before you by the sword. For I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you. And ye shall eat old store, and bring forth the old because of the new. And I will set my tabernacle among you: And my soul shall not abhor you. And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people. I am the Lord your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright” (Leviticus 26:1-13). Now if we don’t obey, the cursing: “But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments; and if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant: I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague [Heb. fever], that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: And ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: They that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you” (Leviticus 26:14-17). These curses call for seven times more increases, and continue through verse 46. Read them.
