Testing the faith of believers and challenging them to give all to Jesus

  1. Come Out of Her My People

Several weeks ago I was glued to the computer watching the terrible devastation wreaked by Hurricane Harvey in southeast Texas. As I watched everything unfold I noticed a curious discrepancy between the governor of Texas and the mayor of Houston. The governor was calling for Houston to be evacuated while the mayor told the residents to stay in place. Despite the overwhelming projections that unprecedented flooding in Houston would occur, and occurred, the mayor told people to stay put. In many respects ...
  2. 'All'ergies

I hate having allergies but growing up with allergies taught me some valuable lessons about how my body handled certain ‘irritants’. I grew up unnaturally sensitive to certain foods and it made life difficult. Trying to find out which foods I reacted to was a long process. Although I went for tests the doctors did not test for everything. Sometimes I just had to find out through trial and error, giving up or trying things to see if there was a reaction. In many way trying to find out if ‘self’ ...

Yesterday was my birthday and Homer bought me a lovely new prayer journal with the title “And so the adventure begins.” He also bought me some of my favorite donuts from the local Tim Horton’s to complete the unexpected birthday surprise. I love my husband very much and he wanted to bring me something that he knew was my “taste”. Not something he thought I would like but something he KNEW I would like because of the intimacy that we share. My heart rejoiced because he “entered in” ...
  4. Make A Decision

I can remember it clearly as if it just happened. Boris, our much loved South African ballroom dance teacher, bellowing out across the dance floor, “MAKE A DECISION!!” There I was, my beautiful bride in my arms, doing nothing but box steps like a one legged duck trying to swim and my dance teacher had enough. Our dance teacher, of course, saw that I was stuck going in circles not knowing what to do. I had many choices of steps I could take but was paralyzed out of fear and the unknown. Boris ...
  5. The Crown of Thorns

by , December 4th, 2017 at 08:44 AM (Spiritual Assayers)
On Friday night, out of the blue, we received an email from someone who had hurt us when we were on our journey of homelessness. The email was kind, however, and seeing a God connection in this email Wanda and I decided to visit. Our visit was cordial and polite. We were able to extend grace and love to this person even though we had been hurt by them in the past. As we left, this person pointed to a Crown of Thorns plant they had on their porch. It was, as you see in the picture, full of nasty ...
