Keep My Commandments - Part 1 - The Light Burden

For a while God's been showing me to rest in His finished work and believe in His victory and that by faith into His work and resting I will overcome the devil and the flesh and be transformed more into the image of Jesus. (Is there something you're struggling with too? Do your errors frustrate you and you want liberty and stumblings or strongholds completely removed from your life? Please keep reading, I hope you will benefit as I did...)
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
A sister has brought up this one to my attention and it had me meditating on it a good part of the afternoon. Suddenly I remembered how God speaks, from back in Genesis... God brought verses to my mind to show me something.
Genesis 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
Genesis 1:9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
This "and it just happened" principle is mentioned in Psalms as well:
Psalms 33:9 For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.
And in the New Testament, too.
Matthew 21:19 And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.
John 5:8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
The man was not healed because he strived to rise - that never worked out for him for how many years so far? - but because he believed the Word, so His word came true in him without him trying or working to be healed. The same is true spiritually. That amazed me so much what a beautiful lesson and I started out in my own walk like this - always ran to God, if I stumbled I asked forgiveness and prayed to overcome, and I was successfully overcoming, but later I was harmed by a lot of negative legalist writings I've encountered online which dont promote faith in God at all and fears and insecurities crept back in. Should I say I was bewitched like the foolish Galatians. What man will stop the Word of GOD from accomplishing what HE has purposed? But focus was moved from God on me and I was already despairing. I started striving to avoid sin, and it just didnt work as well... so I've been striving for a while.
When we strive to earn approval of God, it means that we still dont believe that we have been made blameless in Jesus and that sin has no more dominion over us. And according to our faith it is being done to us - sins overcome us, just as we believed they had the power to. And this is all because we did not trust in the finished work on the Cross. This is a warning and an invitation for thinking for all who believe they still must strive.
Matthew 9:29 ...According to your faith be it unto you...
Matthew 8:13 ...as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee...
Let us remember this when we want to defeat sins, to rely on God and have faith that we have been made a new creature, whom He will cause to rise and walk in Spirit, and watch the miracle of God happening, instead of striving to get up on our own. In the past while I was a worker for salvation, I used to be like, what do you mean, light burden! What do you mean, easy yoke? Why is it not easy for me? Because we look at our own incapacitated flesh and try to walk instead of looking to God and watching it happen. Dont look at those crippled legs, dont trust in the flesh: God promised that you will stand up, trust that no matter what you see at present with your fleshly eyes, dont be swayed if it seems at present that you're losing the battle. This is not my invention, look what God says here about righteousness coming from God without our work, all we need to do is come to God with repentance:
Jeremiah 31:9 They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble:
Isaiah 54:17No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.
More on amazing power of the Word of God.
Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? 20 Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it.
Our works and strivings to do good, on the other hand, are doomed to fail and they never please God:
Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags;
But faith moves mountains, confirmed by so many events in the whole Bible from the beginning. Yet another one coming by faith, because the leper believed Jesus could made him clean if He wanted to.
Luke 5:13 And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.
When God pronounces something, it simply comes to pass without any man's "work". He is simply irresistible, the only ones who are able to resist him are those who dont believe. The believers are under the lordship of Christ, as they are not the children of rebellion. Therefore, back to what Jesus said... "If ye love me, keep my commandments,"
The conditional if is there to weed out those who dont really place their faith in God but merely profess belief. In the light of all the Bible and having reminded ourselves that God is sovereign and every Word of God comes to pass and works mightily in believers to produce fruit, we can also read it like this:
Those that love me, let them keep my commandments...
...and it was so!
This is also genesis repeating itself in ways... because Jesus was just making new creatures! Woohoo! Praise God!!!
