Thanks for your comments/opinions

its a problem, i was in a youth fellowship where the youth leader said the same stuff

you and your son doing it TOGETHER????

first thing is, anyone has to decide for themselves that it is wrong
what are you on about!!

I believe it is wrong for a variety of reasons such as: for some one to masturbate it has to start with sexual thoughts and we know that the Bible teaches that when we water these seeds enough they are manifested, in this case the manifestation is the act of masturbation which is sexual immorality which is a sin against the body which leads to death.

now you dont have a problem with porn, just masterbation.
This is the primary reason to avoid masturbatory activity. It is rarely, if ever, done without pornography, (mostly men) or fantasizing, (mostly women). Sexual gratification stimulates the pleasure center in the brain, the same way that certain drugs can. The desire is insatiable and anyone with a masturbatory habit, can soon find themselves in a loop or a cycle, which consists of acting out, feeling guilt and shame, repenting, and then repeating the cycle. This is not simply pleasure, but an addiction.

Granted, some are more predisposed than others to having an addictive personality, which can make them more susceptible to developing an addiction of some type, but the behavior itself, whether for recreational pleasure or by compulsion is no less sinful.

There are a number of triggers which can produce a desire to masturbate, anxiety, stress, boredom etc... , but those with a serious masturbatory habit, need little provocation, before indulging.

Each individual, whether male or female, develops a particular affection which produces sufficient arousal. The problem is, for those who have an addiction, their prefered methods for arousal may change. One problem which is usually present in those experiencing masturbatory habits, is a poor self image.

Sexual Fantasy and pornography are supported by lust, vile affections, unnatural affections, inordinate affections, and a number of other types of sexual immorality. Any Christian considering these types of affection, acceptable, need only open the scriptures. There is freedom for those who desire it, but not for those who defend their sin.

Colossians 3:5

... Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.

There are people that don't feel convicted about being gay. Does that mean that it is ok?
TimJim, the Holy Spirit does not need your help.

I have three kids, ages 26(son) - 20(daughter) and 12(son)
Eldest son has recently got married and was a virgin until then (whew!..one down..two to go)
My daughter is a virgin as well and it looks like she will stay that way till she is married (please Lord!)
I am extremely proud of them for choosing to abstain from premarital sex.

Now my youngest son is at the age where he is seeing girls in a whole new light, a little while back at school, a male teacher was talking to them about aids and STD's and he said to them that they must rather masturbate than have sex. I found this rather disturbing as by saying this to these kids it basically is giving them permission to masturbate and that it is a natural, normal thing and nothing is wrong with it. I have tried to talk to him and teach him that it is not alright, but have caught him and his friend twice doing this.
What this teacher has done I feel is totally wrong and this is what is being fed to our kids at school.
These kids look up to their teaches and believe in everything they say.

My question is how would you go about undoing the seed that has been planted in these young minds?
Well, tough one. Maybe explain to him that technically, the Bible is silent on the issue. However, the thoughts and the addiction associated with the act are sinful in nature and that's something that he can't get rid of every time he masturbates. So essentially, he's sinning multiple sins for doing one thing.

But from what you've said, I think it will open a whole new can of worms because of the pressure public schools place on kids when it comes to sex and sexuality. So be forewarned? You are going to have a very long talk that includes kissing, dating, girls, dancing, movies, and all sorts of other things.

That example was more than likely made for a kleptomaniac(or just normal stealing). Or atleast that's the 1st thing I think of whenever I see that verse.
Look at the context, he talks about lust, then mentions the eye, then the hand. That's one of the best anti-masturbation verses there is.

Lets face facts. Those who masturbate, use either fantasy, or pornography, to support the habit. Both of these involve lusting, obsession, and impure thoughts, but as with any other sin, if it is not confessed and if there is no true repentence, it is given power both physically and spiritually, over a person.

Whatever we fantasize about, or view with our eyes, is the fuel which ignites lust. These become idols, and masturbation very easily becomes a type of worship which competes with our devotion to God.

For men, the pictures or movies containing women they lust after, are in fact images. They are not real. It is a likeness transmitted to our computers or televisions, so in essence we have in fact 'set up an image' to worship it. This is why this behavior constitutes idolatry.

I Corinthians 10:14

Therefore, my dear friends, flee from idolatry.

So, you're sayin if I think about cars while I masturbate it's okay because I'm not lusting? Wouldn't it be better to masturbate than to sleep with someone you aren't married to? And what about people who are married but can't be with their spouse. My husband is in Iraq for a year, there are people who's spouse become unable to have sex for whatever reason. The marriage bed is undefiled, and in marriage two become one. I still have yet to hear anybody give a good reason that masturbation is a sin. Yes, sure, when it becomes addiction, it is wrong, but then again, how many of us can't turn down a piece of chocolate when offered even when we know we shouldn't?

Chatters, please be mindful, in discussing this topic.....to try to help, to discuss the right/wrong issue, more than the act itself.
We do have young chatters in the forums too.

Please people can you focus on the question asked and try refrain from debating as to whether it is wrong or right.

I have posted this thread on the hope that some Christian people,( ideally married couples with children) who have had to deal with similar situations to maybe learn from their experiences.

There is already a thread on this subject in the Bible Discussion Forum titled "Is mastrubation and pornography a sin"?

Or maybe taking him to a Christian School instead. I've known a few people that were homeschooled, when they got to college they were't that well equiped to handle people socially.

Show me a verse in the Bible where it either says that or atleast points to it.
Hi,
Heres a few bible verses that can very well point to masterbation or any sexual immorality at that:

Leviticus 15:16 "When a man has an emission of semen, he must bathe his whole body with water, and he will be unclean till evening."
So this is old testament, but it states that it is an unclean act. Even though we are living by the new testament, the sin remains the same, but now we don't need to bathe in water in order to be considered clean. We are forgiven by the Lord, but we should still refrain from doing these things.

Galatians 5:16-21, So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law. The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Matthew 5:28, But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already commited adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Do you not know that your body is a tmeple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

2 Timothy 2:22, Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

1 Peter 2:11, Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens ans strangers in the world. to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.

James 1:13-15, When tempted, one should not say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

most times "christian" schools are not always better then public school. For me personally homescooling is what i always wanted, unfortunately most parents have a hard time arranging that.

Hi,
I think the best way to go about this would be to possibly go over all the scriptures in the bible that talk about masterbation with your son. You could also type it in on google, and it will give you a number of bible verses that are pertaining to this issue. I don't know if you can undo the seed that has already been planted in his mind, but I think that as a parent you can definitlely replace it with a better seed.
But I can understand how much you must be frusterated at the things schools are teaching our children, it is so wrong of them to teach children that. On that note, I would maybe consider a private christian school/homeschooling your son.
Although, these are just my opinions. I just thought I would throw that out there.

It says the bascially the same thing about a girl having her period, and last time I checked girls can't exactly control that.

I'm pretty sure if it ment masturbation it would have said so.

I don't look at any girls while I umm do it...

From what I've heard science has proven it's a good thing. Besides with some guys, they are on meds where they can take care of it in their sleep. btw, I know science usually isn't a standard for the Bible. But from what I've seen ALL of God rules have been made to protect us from unneeded harm.

As I've already noted in other threads, the Bible is silent about the physical practice of masturbation itself; it's neither advocated nor condemned in total. People have said, "Well, do you think of anything other than lust when masturbating?" I think they're missing the point. In such a situation, it's the lust which is sinful, not the masturbation itself. Very young children have been known to engage in this activity, before they even knew what sex was. Also, married people often use it as part of their foreplay...so clearly, the physical act itself is not the sin. Lust is sinful, whether you masturbate or not, but it surprises me how many people are condemning the practice itself, instead of what often accompanies it. If a person claims they can masturbate without lusting, who am I to say they're lying? Do I know their heart? I may not understand it at times, but that doesn't mean its impossible.
