Lately, my wife and I have been discussing how we will celebrate our son's fist birthday that is coming up in a couple of weeks. We are going to get cake and ice cream, some learning toys, clothes, and finish a scrap book about his first year (with pictures taken of him from every month of this year accompanied with a Psalm).
As this is our first child and first experience with a birthday being parents, we would like to ask other parents here for any suggestions to make his first birthday a really nice experience. Any suggestions friends?

He is one so he will be most happy with what makes you and your wife happy. The memory book and photos are a great idea, you will want to look back on this birthday. Fun for your son would be to allow him a small cake or cupcake to squish and eat....my kids were surprised when they were encouraged to make a mess!

All the activities you laid out sounds like a perfect party! Invite the family and maybe some close friends. The birthday's all about you when they're one. Save the big party atmosphere for 5.

One thing you could begin to do now for his birthday in late teens, etc., is to save all his t-shirts with interesting slogans. Later, have them sewed together into a quilt. It will be a history of his interests throughout his life.

But at one, they aren't able to comprehend a "party" - but they sure will dig into that cake and ice cream.

Just do something the family could enjoy.
Don't worry too much about your baby, just give him something to play. He would not remember this birthday anyway

It sounds like your ideas are very good & just sharing your love & the love of & for our Lord is the greatest gift you can give your child.

God bless your family
