I know the Bible has some scripture about being called, Romans 8:28-39: "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

What do you think this means or what is it pertaining too, being called or chosen? Do you think that everyone is called, but some don't listen?

Interesting.
I do believe everyone is called. To me, Being called in the context of this verse is simply being called to righteousness. Holiness. Working towards being the citizen of light in this world. Loving one another, doing good, encouraging each other in the faith, living our lives as example. Even in our impefections.

Few are chosen but God calls on everyone. It depends on our obedience to be disciplined and modelled by him who called us.
In the end, when we are sincere and genuine, everything work together for them that love God, and do the things we are supposed to do ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE. Not ours.

I believe the verse on this scripture can be looked at in two parts.

First "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God" and
Secondly- "who are the called according to his purpose".

Well all people are called, but a few are chosen. The bible teaches us that God loved us first, that he sent his only son to die for our sins. Atonement was done by God through his son Jesus, for which we are then attracted by his love for us. From that love, our love for him develops when we reflect on what he did for us. That is why when we come before him he accepts us the way we are. No matter the situation that we are in (sin), when we simply call his name (by faith) he listens to us. Psalms 20:4 "May the lord grant you according to your heart desire and fulfil your purpose". One has to develop that desire of love towards God.

Secondly, we can look at some of the books of prophet in the OT, Jeremiah and Ezekiel when they were called, there calling, purpose was very clear.

Thus calling can only be seen by its "FRUITS".

I am called to be the branch to the Vine.
I am called to be the vessel to the Presence.
I am called to be the hand to the Helper.
I am called to be the clay to the Potter.
I am called to be the stream to the Living Water.
I am called to be the expression to the Joy.
I am called to be the fragrance to the Perfume.
I am called to be the singer to the Song.

I am called to give him my LIFE.

Of course all who hear and follow the GOOD SHEPHERD are called...we hear HIS voice..we follow in HIS service. HE gives us talents and gifts..none is better than the other. There are those who come across your path that even world famous evangelists cannot reach..with the exception of YOU. WE cannot hold JESUS in. WE have to express HIS love and reflect or mirror what JESUS is all about..otherwise, what good are we? We cannot be lone wolves..who seldom or never reach anyone for CHRIST. The Holy Spirit is what we need to attach to..having HIM in our hearts and minds..leading, discerning and opening doors that only HE can do...it is never about ourselves...it is always for others. Being called simply means that we hear the wooing of the Holy spirit within us.

I do believe that we are are all "called" by God to spread good news and to pursue him, but we are all "chosen" with different gifts and strengths to use to spread the gospel. Some are chosen to teach children, some in music, some as missionaries, pastors, and the list goes on. I do agree that some people don't follow through with the gifts God has bestowed upon them.

hey, Rachel, how's it going? :)
perhaps the question is answered if we keep reading?

Rom 8:28-30
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. (here's His purpose comin' up...)

For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;

and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.

does that help at all, or should i just go get some coffee? :)

your silly, lol.....you don't need coffee :) Unless you want some of course!!!! I was having this conversation with my friend and she was saying stuff and I was saying stuff and it was bothering me so I thought I would ask to make sure. All the answers answered my question, including yours. :) I just always felt in my heart I was made for a bigger purpose, that God had something miraculous for me. I talked to another friend one day and she never felt anything like that. I know I was chosen, I was called.....I guess I was confused if everyone is called who seeks God and whether or not they are listening or if it is just certain people.....
