hi there! :)

since you don't specifically say what the meds are or what they're for, can't help there.
(also, not a psychiatrist, so.... :) )

i do know there are medications that can affect us in various ways.
but i think what you really need to know is God is with you.
He will speak to you when you read the love letter He wrote you...the Bible.
He does His best and most reliable talking to us there. (we can trust His Word)

i just want to encourage you...that when God seems silent, it doesn't mean He's
not present, or not active. you can be assured of His faithfulness and His work in your life.
sometimes we walk through a valley, and it may seem we are alone, and this is not so.
it's just what we call walking by faith, and not by sight. :)

i'd suggest two things:
ask your doctor or pharmacist what the side effects of your meds are,
and read Psalm 23; meditate on it.
it's pretty wonderful.

welcome to the site, little one. ♥

Sometimes, you won't feel God's presence you just have to trust in his plan. Just because He isn't very "loud" (so to speak) doesn't make him any less present. He has a plan for your life. Trust me. This message may not seem like it helps you, but honestly if you are patient you may come to realize He is closer to you now than you have ever known before...

Hi Liverlover I don't know you but i think you are the right path. even by coming here and asking questions.
You are young. it's normal to feel confused in life. and I praise you for your courage.
I am sure that there is a lot of things you are not mentioning that are taking you away from God and you are just dealing with them in your mind. I pray that the Lord assist you.
If you have time, you could listen to this preaching on healing

when i feel that way
-i try and read the word
-i try and see the commandments, and follow them more closely
-i see those verses which have a connection to my situation if i can find them like psalms
-i try to clear any logs in my own eye --> WHAT I MEAN... IS.. i try to see where i am sinning... falling short

Don't feel the worst person of the world because of your illness. There are many peoples looking for the same relief you do. Praise the Lord you know what he can do for us, He cares about us. Even if sometimes you don't feel close to Him, He will never left you, like if you doesn't matter to Him, you do matter, and also any problem that you're dealing with.
Depression and other illness of the soul, as some people calls it, is each year more common in the world, you're not alone, the Lord is watching every single struggle you didn't imagine you could pass. I just know that it is better to pass trough any storm with the Lord, than without Him. Hold on, trust in Him. God bless.

If you are on anti-psychotics, I have read evidence that they blunt the "spiritual" side of people. I have heard numerous people complain of this who are Christians on psych meds.

That being said, God is still there in the darkness, and he will never leave you or forsake you. Don't go off your meds, but learn to trust God through the worst of circumstances.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding,
in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." Prov. 3:5-6

It could be that your medication is blocking God's voice. Please don't quit taking it because of this. God speaks to people in many different ways, and just because you can't hear His voice in your head doesn't mean He's not talking to you.

I don't believe a medication can stop God's voice, God can speak with you, if you're using medication or not, He doesn't need to talk only by 'listening', He can make you see something He wants to tell you, or use some people to speak with your heart.

I've being diagnosed with something similar to a depression when I was 18, and since the doctors tested the best medication would help me most, to have a normal life, and having a normal life to me means, completing my studies and continueing my spiritual life too, but I'm complete conscious, nothing of this would be possible if God wouldn't be in first place of my life.

I have neighbours who do treatments for similars problems, but they just don't care or doesn't have a serious life with God leading them. They enjoy drinking alcohol, which is a poison if mixed with some medications, and then their bodies don't work good with their medication and it doesn't make the effect expected, it just make the opposite, and they have to start all over again. It's tough. God is everything, He wants the best for us.

i am taking, abilify and fluoxetine, these are anti-psychotics. but my mom says that without the meds i start being psychotic, however my point is that if i'm being psychotic God is with me. Some people say the psychotic symptoms is because of my anxiety and fear. I don't know what the best medication is for me really.

I don't know what the best medication for you is, liverlover, but no matter what meds you're taking, you can give your anxiety and fear to God. It certainly won't hurt anything to do that! But also, God says in the bible that He wants you to give Him these things, so that He can bear your burdens for you and give you peace. Because He loves you.

please don't worry if these are the right meds for you.
just relay any unpleasant or dangerous side effects to the doc right away,
and trust the doctor to know the right meds. :)

Abilify is an antipsychotic, and fluoxetine (Prozac) is an SSRI.
when used together, it's typically to treat a major depressive event.
this may be the case for you, or it may not, but when used together, that's usually what it indicates.
it's good to follow the doc's instructions, but the thing with these meds
is that while you don't feel the low lows (which is GOOD), you also tend not to feel the high highs.
by which i mean you may not feel the giddy happy feelings as much.

that may be why God seems distant. but He isn't distant from you at all! :)
He's right there with you, every moment of every day, just loving you.
He promised you (Hebrews 13:5) He will never leave you.

and you know that! i think that's wonderful!
just keep trusting Him to love and care for you.
He'll never, ever let you down. ♥

If you are schizophrenic or bipolar 1, then you will have to continue on these meds. But please do not give up on God. He is right there, and consistent reading of Scripture and prayer will help you continue to grow, in spite of not feeling "close" to God.

Both those meds can blunt your affect, or feelings, and cause you to not "feel" God so clearly.

As for God being with you when you are psychotic, not so much! It's not that he leaves you, he is always there. But you will be tormented by hallucinations, dreams and other things which come from the psychosis, not from God. You will justify behaviours that you feel are right, because the "voice of God" told you, when it was nothing but psychosis.

You are playing with fire if you go off your meds. Abilify is a good anti-psychotics and Prozac is a good AD, they will help you lead a normal life. Psychosis is by definition, living out of your mind and off your rocker.

God would rather have you sane, than insane, and following his Word, rather than walking by feeling, especially if those feelings come out of mental illness.

Praying you come to accept that at this time, and probably into the future, you will need to take these meds. Please do NOT go off of them, or you could become a victim to all sorts of lies and hallucinations.
