I guess women like it for the "liberating" sexual content but really from what I understand (I've not seen the movie or read any of the books) it's quite dark in that it's all about the man wielding power over the girl - not just in the bedroom but in every aspect of her life. This kind of relationship is not what was ordained by God - it's sad that on Valentine's day this is what society perceives as "love". Have women really been liberated? Is this a good thing for women in a world where they largely suffer disrespect? This "made for women" movie does nothing to promote women's causes, it's sad that society is buying into this lie.

Do we now have the sequel's to look forward to?

a hundred years from now, and this will be forgotten! lol The Wizard of Oz was initially complained about by CHRISTIANS too. Each generation in America has it's own book, movie or play that has nothing to do with GOD and any consequences. If you live long enough, you will see this repeated, like I have! I would say "Concern with winning the LOST to CHRIST and stop trying to give advice to other CHRISTIANS on what you perceive as porn or worse. Share CHRIST and let the Holy Spirit do the discernment.

50 shades is a lonnnnng way from the Wiz. I think you should let other Christians know about this, its important to be informed. And its not my perception,it is porn, period. Share Christ to the lost, yes. But we should also inform other Christians when we see this kind of junk.

Okay everybody, I'm just curious, but why do women find "50 Shades of Grey" to be so "Liberating" (both intellectually and sexually)? Somebody mentioned this on this thread. Seriously, when I think of the word "Liberating" I think about having the freedom to choose what I will do and having free choice and consequence/responsibility over my life.

But "50 Shades" is about a man ruling over and abusing a woman. Let it simply be asked, what is so "liberating" and "freeing" about a man controling every aspect about a girls life as she is being abused? Wouldn't a woman find it more "liberating" to be allowed free choice in matters of sex and romance? I would think so, but this is just from my perspective.

If your vision of freedom is having a man dominate and abuse you in a harmful way while sexually using you for his pleasure, then you as a woman (if you are one) need to take a good strong look at your faith and re-evaluate your worth! Wake up, girl! ...Jesus died for YOU! Does he want you to be abused and controlled by an egotistical unloving man? I don't think so, and neither does Jesus. I submit to you that you are worth more than that, and that you'd be better off single than in that situation!

Please, get a new view of liberty if 50 Shades is currently your definition of the word! You can be sexually "Liberated" within the sanctity of marriage with your husband. That's what he's there for, if you didn't already read that in scripture (which you should have! But please choose Jesus above sin, though, please. It is better than somebody telling you that you are property to be used...

You are a daughter of Christ. Act like it! :) There is absolutely, positively NOTHING Liberating about "50 Shades of Grey". Nothing. Period.

How can any Christian justify this book of adulterated, perverted sexual fantasy? Do you think that this book reflects the image of Christ? Instead of trying to justify our sinful actions we should do that which is God's will.

Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

I don't think the 'liberating' has anything to do with the story in the novel itself but rather making various aspects of bdsm more mainstream and less weird to bring up to partners and engage in.

[h=1]Theater owner refuses to show Fifty Shades: concerned girls will think ‘dysfunctional a**hole’ is their ‘Harlequin romance hero’[/h] The massively popular “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie may have earned studios and theater owners tens of millions of dollars since its Valentine’s weekend opening, but the owner of one small theater in Sechelt, British Columbia, is having none of it.

It is porn, but it is not a book.
It is a book and whether it's porn depends on what you consider porn to be.

50 Shades of Gray is an erotic novel.

plagiarized Twilight fanfiction
Twilight is about an emotionless girl who falls in love with a vampire who constantly rescues her. 50 Shades is about a man and a woman who have a lot of sex and slowly fall in love with one another. Please, point out the actual plagiarism. Because it's not plagiarism just because both books have a theme involving lust. The books aren't even in the same genre.

it's a depiction of an abusive relationship between a vapid ingénue and her handler.
I haven't read the book, but I haven't actually heard of there being any abuse within it. (A friend of mine read it and told me all about it). Yes, it involves BDSM, but BDSM is voluntary role ply, abuse is not.
