I have a question and I don't know what to do, some people say listening to hard rock is a sin even if it is Christian. Heres an example of a song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfR_iXeUsOE&NR=1
What do you think, should a listen to it or not? Please help!

It just depend of what you using it for...is it good for men or God? If it a worship Hard Rock song inspired by a Christian band then it good for God. But if it something like KoRn or similar to that type of music, then it good for men, You get it?

But remember God created music, either heavy metal, Hard Rock, rap, punk and so on, He created it

Dear jasonfight7,

I believe that there' no sin in listening to rock music, but ONLY if the band carries a good christian message in it.

My hubby and I debate on this... he thinks that ALL music that reaches people for Jesus is worthy... The only one that I have a problem with is the Death Metal stuff... I mean, they make Christian death metal??/ that's like an oxymoron! LOL!

But we do agree that any music that gets kids/adults to hear the word of God can't be bad. I remember, being a teen, and my friends listening to worldly death metal and we used to try to understand the lyrics and read them... if kids do that with the Christian stuff, then that's cool, I guess. My concern, however, is the roots of the music... like if the music is rooted in evil... is that a concern? Even if you've written Christian lyrics..

LOL! I don't know if I gave an answer or just more reasons to keep wondering.

I don't see how "music" can be rooted in evil at all. That's akin to saying that volcanoes are rooted in evil, and certain light patterns are rooted in evil, and while we're at it, star formations are rooted in evil too.

Music is a pattern of sounds. Music is music, regardless of vocals or not. Is a Death Metal instrumental evil? Sure, it's loud and stuff, but you definitely can't call it evil, since there isn't a clear message being presented through the music. If anything, the music patterns my strike a sense of "anger," but the same can be said about "depressing" classical music. Wrong? Definitely not.

Now, let's look at it WITH vocals. If the vocals, even if they aren't understandable, PRAISE God and give an overall positive message, does this somehow make the music "bad"? Of course not! What makes it bad is the fact that a majority of said music IS demonic, and people growing accustomed to one style of music may begin experimenting with other songs of the same genre. However, if a person very clearly sets a boundary to ONLY listen to clean, appropriate music, then there should be no problem, regardless of the genre =)

There's my opinions on it. Weird Al fan here... He sings clean, funny songs in every genre known to man XD

rock music is no different than classical or jazz- its all about the words not the tempo. If the lyrics dont please God then I might have a problem with it.

As a new Christin, I used to listen to a lot of Metal, it was only a couple of months ago. Now I listen to Christian based bands only. Weather they classify their band as a christian band, or if the band members themselves are Christians. As long as it has a clean Christian Message, I don't see how the instrumentals of the music should affect the message being portrayed in the lyrics.

"I’m at war with the world cause I Ain’t never gonna sell my soul I’ve already made up my mind No matter what I can’t be bought or sold When my faith is getting weak And I feel like giving in You breathe into me again"

Skillet - Awake and Alive

Hope this helps! God Bless.

Oh and to add to that, personally, heavier music gets me more "pumped" up, i love the sound of power chords and the guitar riffs hard rock has.

The way people label sins today is crazy and drives people away from Christianity. Drinking is a sin, dancing is a sin, listening to non Christian music is a sin. WHEN DOES IT STOP?! craziness indeed.

I listen to everything, from oldies 40's, classical, death metal, black metal, R&B some rap, some Christian rap,Christian metal, Christian metalcore, industrial, goth, emo ,punk, folk, ska, anything! You name it! My opinion is, if it influences you to sin or do evil then don't listen to it! I had a problem with music influencing me, so I stopped listening to it for a long while until I learned better and now it doesn't effect me. So...listen to anything, it's not a sin because it has a different message, and some secular artists make a song to be either or, and some actually have a good message. The things I listen to I can relate to in some way or it relaxes or it has extremely good vocals or just talented. It's really up to you...and what you think is right to listen to.
btw, Skillet, Whispers in the Dark is an amazing song! Makes me cry every time I listen to it!

Agreed!!! haha read the bible and search for yourself and debate and pray over what you think is the right thing. I think it was Paul who said, what is right for one brother may not be for the other.

You have to think about what would please god, you really have to analyze things, and listen to Gods voice. I don't believe drinking is a sin, BUT to be drunk is a sin, because of the choices we make when we are drunk. But we as Christians are role models, so if someone was to see us drinking, that person could go out get smashed, and do something terrible, all because they thought, "oh well that person is a wholesome Christian, so if they can drink, why can't I?"

The reality is, that we can not, not live in sin, it is impossible, but the things we do call sin, like drinking, the music we listen to etc. is an easy thing to give up for our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ.

Music that we listen to, if it doesn't portray a good clean Christian message, influences us, it puts thoughts into our sub-concious. Things the enemy wants us to think so we can distance ourselves from our spiritual and physical relationship with God. So that we disobey Gods word and displease him by listening to the enemy and pleasing our flesh.

Anyways, I know that's a little off topic but, just think about it.

I know I will probably be hated for this article, but the Bible says that all who live Godly in Christ will suffer persecution.

One thing that you have to respect about some of these secular rock groups is that they don't hide what they think, they just tell it like it is; Here are some of their quotes.

" Our music is capable of causing emotional instabiiblity, disorganized behaviour, rebellion, and revolution"----The Beatles

" The throbbing geat of rock provides a sexual release for adolecent audiences"------Jan Berry

"Pop music is sex, and you have to hit them in the face with it"---Andrew Oldham, (Rolling Stones' recording manager)

"I'm in the rock music for the sex and the narcotics"------Glen Frey of the Eagles

"Rock n Roll is 99% sex----John Oats of Hall n Oats

"Everyone takes for granded that rock n roll is synonomous with sex"----Chris Stein (lead guitarist for " Blondie")

"Rock n roll has always been the devils music.....I believe rock n roll is dangerous... I feel wree only heralding something even darker than ourselves----David Bowie ( Rolling Stone Feb 12,1976)

"Atmosphers are going to come through music, becuase music is a spiritual thing of its own. You can hypnotize people with music and when you get them to their weakest point, you can preach into their subconscious what ever you want to say."-----Jimi Hendrix

" Rock n roll hypnotizes us and controls us."-------Little Richard

Oh, I have an idea; lets try to use this for the Lord. (sarcasm)

Notice these guys aren't putting emphasis on the effect of their words but the music itself. But does the Bible say anything about music?

And I will cause the noise of thy songs to cease....Eziekiel 26:13
Take thou away form me the noise of thy songs......Amos 5:23
And the songs of the Temple shall be howlings in that day...Amos 8:3( Amos is a book of prophacy and I think he might be refering to the church of the later day saying that the songs of the church will be howlings. And that is exactly what they are.
It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise than for a man to hear the song of fools. Ecclesiasties 7:5(It is better to preach the Word to people than attempt to reach them with "Christian" rock.)

Speaking to yourself in psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs singing and making melody in your hears to the Lord. Ephesians 5:19 It said to make melody and rock music is almost dominated in rhythem with little melody.

We read in Ezekiel 28:13 that Lucifer( Satan) was a musician and yes he has the power to corrupt words, but to think that he dosen't have the power to corrupt the very thing he specializes in (music) is just insane. Why has the suicide rate went up 300% since the 1950's (an article I read). That is when rock music came out and that is when women started wearing pants as well; men started wearing earings and growing their hair long : at least that is when these things became mainstreem.

Is there such a thing as Christian rock?

Is there such a thing as a Christian strip club?

Absolutely not.

If you started a "Christian" strip club every sailor from the four corners of the earth would probably come to "christ", but they wouldn't be coming to the Christ of the Bible because Jesus said a person as to deny themselves and this means our fleshly desires. They would be coming to the antichrist because the Bible says that the antichrist is going to claim to be God and that he is going to be a man of lawlessness. So who do you think all these so-called converts who have no moral standard of what right and wrong are coming to.

The Bible says in 1 John 2:3 that Herby we do know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. So just saying a prayer does not save person we have to deny ourselves take up the cross and follow after Christ.

I'm not just some inocent guy, I listened to this garbage for 13 years and I know what it did to me. People say well the Bible says you shouldn't judge lest you be judged but the Bible goes on to say that you need to take the beam out of your own eye then you can see to take the speck out of your brothers eye. So if I was living in sin I would have no right to post this. The Bible also says: But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged by no man 1 Corinthians 2:15( yet he himself isn't a hypocrite)

God bless
