So yesterday after working a long day at work I came home to my 10 year old daughter super excited about Horoscopes.
Apparently the babysitter (who says she is a believer) took it upon herself to teach my 10 yr old about Astrology and how it tells the future and she should read hers everyday. This really upset me because 1- I believe in God and I believe astrology is evil. 2- she is only 10.
When I asked her to not show my daughter those things she got very upset with me and still is giving me the silent treatment. AM I wrong? Do you believe horoscopes are bad? If you dont, why dont you?

Torah, God's Word, All of Scripture, says clearly to have nothing to do with them, and to have nothing to do with those who won't repent of it if they call themselves a believer.

"A curse causeless shall not come" is hardly even known these days. Want a curse? Do what Yahweh says in HIS WORD He will curse someone for doing.

If the employee you are paying money to for a service is going behind your back teaching things to your child, getting upset with you for requesting she not teach things you don't want your child to know and giving you the 'silent treatment' because you have expectations on how you want YOUR children raised i would kick her to the curb asap and find a new sitter.

I would not call Astrology evil, but it is not good either. The problem i see with it is the way it can influence your future indirectly through how it influences your own thoughts and decisions.

I don't follow it at all, but what makes astrology and horoscopes evil exactly? I don't have any intentions to follow it, either, but I'm curious as to what makes them forbidden.

Honestly, it doesn't matter if horoscopes are objectively bad or not (I think they are bunk). It doesn't matter though because YOU are the MOTHER. You are the one who gets to determine what kind of stimuli your daughter is exposed to. If you dislike Mr. Roger's Neighborhood and tell the babysitter not to show it to your daughter, she shouldn't show it to your daughter.

Do NOT let the babysitter manipulate you. You are the mother. You are the authority. Make your wishes clear and make the consequences clear. If she's teaching your daughter something that opposes your values, she should not have access to your daughter.

some uses of astrology are in line with Scripture. (most people haven't heard about it though).
what Yahweh permits doesn't include anything evil.

There are only 2 sources of spiritual leading: the Holy Spirit, and satan and his minions. Astrology and horoscopes are not of the Holy Spirit. So when you listen to them, you're listening to satan.

Beside that (she said above)

I hope you find your way to help that unbeliever you hired to help you with your kid. She seems to be addicted to it... :(

The main problem with astrology and horoscope reading is that people begin to depend on what it says instead of asking the Lord for guidance each day. We should only receive His counsel. Listen and discern his guidance on matters.

I told my children that we have another power other than the moon, stars, planets guiding us as Christians. We have the Holy Spirit of God and He will bring into our lives what He purposes.

And when horoscope warns you to "stay in today - not a good day for you, etc.", scripture counters that with "mercy and goodness follows you ALL the days of your life."

I'm not defending Astrology, but what appears in my view to be partly an illogical statement don't assist credibility. I could be wrong but you appear to be saying human beings are physically incapable of inventing anything spiritual on their own?

If she is babysitting for you she is your employee and should abide by your rules. She had no right to teach your child about something without your permission. And because of her attitude I would not have her babysit anymore anyways.

In the matter of horoscopes being right or wrong, yes they are very wrong! Read Isaiah 37:13-15...

All the counsel you have received has only worn you out!

Let your astrologers come forward,
those stargazers who make predictions month by month,
let them save you from what is coming upon you.
14 Surely they are like stubble;
the fire will burn them up.
They cannot even save themselves
from the power of the flame.
These are not coals for warmth;
this is not a fire to sit by.
15 That is all they are to you—
these you have dealt with
and labored with since childhood.
All of them go on in their error;
there is not one that can save you.

Of course not! I know a lot of believers who read them "for fun", but that on them. If you went to her and told her how you felt, then she should respect it and not do it. She sounds childish to me.....don't worry, follow your heart and stand your ground...In which you did! :)

It is your right to ask someone not to talk about a subject in front of your child. On the other hand your child will come across such ideas in her life and it is an opportunity to discuss it with her from a biblical perspective.

I do have a personal view on astrology. I think it is a sin to look into horoscopes as a means to know the future. I never read horoscopes. My dad (who was not saved at the time) used to write them for a magazine and he made it all up and found it hilarious when people came up to him asking for a personal one.

I do have perhaps an unorthodox view though. I do believe that astrology is very real and that it is God's very functional and even mathematical way of allocating aspects of personalities, gifts and even certain paths and events in our lives in an amazing way that doesn't impact our free will or genetically inherited traits.

I believe that any information astrologers have is only partial - which is why it is not very reliable. I think demons have limited knowledge of it too and have shared this knowledge with man but the knowledge is incomplete. Only God has complete knowledge about the workings of planetary/astral alignment and its effect in our lives. It is to be hidden (occult) which is why God commands thus.

Personally I do think that the limited knowledge we do have on astrology can occasionally be helpful in terms of understanding aspects of another person's personality - but not for fortune telling. I am guilty of working out people's birthdays and their star sign and it does give me a little insight into some aspects of their personality. However, I have never mentioned it to my children or discuss such things in front of them. I will never encourage my children into astrology or anything occult that the Lord commands to remain hidden.

That your children will come across this one day is not the same as a trusted adult in charge, claiming to be a Christian, teaching this as fact. So it's not really a valid comparison at all.

So your view is that, despite it being forbidden in the bible, it is still of God. That the alignment of the stars in the sky dictates what kind of person we will be, what kinds of choices we should make and generally over the affairs of the world, despite it being forbidden in the bible.

The issue i have with this idea that there is any validity in it is that the concept is flawed from the beginning. The stars are not really in different places. The earth is spinning and orbiting, and the gives the illusion that the stars around us are shifting. But in reality nothing is really changing, not in the way astrology implies. So, by the very nature of the idea, it disproves itself from the start.

And taking on an idea that this is a Godly thing, yet He forbids us of having knowledge of... actually calls an 'abomination' (defined as 'extreme disgust and hatred). But this thing He forbids and refers to as causing Him disgust and hatred over it, came from Him? Is rooted in Him? I should think that anything that causes God 'disgust and hatred' toward it is not something that stems from Him at all.
