"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you:
not as the world giveth, give I unto you.
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

I will pray.

Lord I pray for patman8174. I ask that you give patman a real sense of peace and that you will guide the surgeons knife and that the operation would be successful. Amen

One of hubby's co-workers had to get a knee replacement. He was scared they replace the wrong knee. Because of that, he wrote "Wrong knee" in Magic Marker on his good knee. The surgeon never saw the note until he visited the guy after surgery. When the guy showed it, they both had a good laugh.

Why not get a friend or family member to write "Make sure it's the correct nerves" on the back of your neck so they will see it? They have to sterilize the area, so they will see it. Just make sure you don't do it with an indelible marker, because they'll get all antsy about sterilizing that writing off your neck, so it might get chaffed from too much scrubbing.

If you don't want to take it that far, pin a Post-It note on the back of the gown they're going to make you wear. It sounds funny, but at least it's a good reminder, so they'll be a little more than usual cautious on you. Considering they're already very cautious, why not make them even more so?

You'll feel better, and you become more human to them, so it can't hurt.

We'll be praying, but just to make doubly sure you have all your bases covered, feel free to remind us closer to the date, so we remember to pray then too. (God's outside time and space, so isn't as much a stickler about when someone prays as those of us stuck in time and space. lol)

One thing that helps me for things like this. If my surgery is on July 15th, I look forward to July 16th, and then July 22nd. The 16th, because I'm safe at home again and the 22nd because by that time the pain from cutting me open should be done hurting.

I pray that your surgery would be a success my friend. If it's any comfort for you, it's in God's hands and the people who will be operating on you are professionals - otherwise they wouldn't be allowed in an operating theater to do their job. I had an operation once that scared me nearly to death, but I came out OK in the end. I have also met a few people in my life that have undergone surgery and it worked out just fine for them, but I have met no one in my life who had a failed surgery that messed them up. Tell ya what... I and you will pray together in our own places until the day that God gives the doctors expertise and that you will heal quickly and the surgery will be a success, M'kay Bro? ;)

Spine surgeons are very good at what they do. :) They specialize in surgeries like this. Don't be nervous, they won't cut the wrong nerve.. I pray your surgery goes well. :)

before another person comments that the surgeon won't make a mistake (or a kindly suggestion about avoiding error) the very nature of the chiari malformation would be why patman is concerned about the error. the risk of affecting an incorrect nerve isn't due to basic error by the doctor but the nature of the malformation, thus it is a fairly reasonable fear.

while that fear might be a valid concern, your medical situation isn't something that is outside of God's purview or control. He created your body, not in assembly line, impersonal fashion. even a doctor's errors cannot remove the control or will of God. that is a pretty amazing thing. : )

that said, patman, i have prayed for you this morning that your surgery is an unmitigated success. no medical failure can eclipse or override God's will and His attention, and i pray that you find peace before the surgery, and have a very successful recovery.

Boy! I would think that would get you thinking, "I can't wait for them to fix me" too!

I know. Doesn't make the worry go away, but there is something to look forward to -- not having that happen again after they fix you!

Patman, my husband also has Arnold Chiari Malformation. He had surgery 21 years ago now. He still suffers from headaches ocassionally, but he was back to work within 3 months. His surgery involved them removing his Occypical bone, repairing the damage, and then replacing the bone with this special mesh type stuff. I will pray for swift skill of the surgeon but mostly for God's peace and guidance in your life as you approach this. Feel free to email me with questions about this. I have some knowledge and what I don't know I can find out for you to the best of my ability.
Peace!!

Patman, Thinking about you and praying for you the last couple of days. Yesterday was the big day. I suspect you'll be recovering for a few days, but I am looking forward to hearing how you're doing when you come back and visit.
