In the stillness, when your alone with your thoughts, you look around and expect to see your loved ones come through the door or hear their voices in conversation. You have a desire to ask them a question and realize their not there just before you speak. So you throw yourself it to work or seek out someone to talk to, to fill the void. Yet eventually the stillness returns. It is in these times that you wish that the Lord would speak directly to you. Slowly you realize that he is speaking to you with the quite. His message is "I know your pain I am here.

The Lord does speak in a gentle whisper.

11 The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord,
for the Lord is about to pass by.”

Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord,
but the Lord was not in the wind.

After the wind there was an earthquake,
but the Lord was not in the earthquake.

12 After the earthquake came a fire,
but the Lord was not in the fire.

And after the fire came a gentle whisper....

Sometimes I think we scream so loudly about our circumstances that we do not hear His voice,

perhaps that is when we need to be still and know that He is LORD.

Amen. It seems that only those who have had loved ones torn from them know the particular loneliness of it. For me, the company of others masks the loneliness of missing my kids, but it doesn't remove it. I have found, though, that by releasing them into God's care, I am also released into His care. His presence is constant (Hebrews 13:5).

I started this thread because both of my parents died with in four months of each other. I took care of them for a long time (and they took care of me). Their deaths coming so close togather changed my life profoundly .
The first thing I noticed was that I kept at the same routine, as if they would need breakfast when they got up. Or that I had to listen for them walking arround in the night, worried they might fall. They were a constant presence in my life. And I enjoyed listening to their stories, and their opinions on the news of the day.

Now it is the silence. It was only on one of my really bad nights that I realized the stillness was almost comforting. And I cried.

"The Lord is with me I shall not want."

I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of both your parents in such a short time. But remember, it takes up to a year to get over the hard parts of grieving. So you are not even half way through.

I pray that God will heal and minister to you, and although you will never be the same person you were, that you will grow and use your experiences to help others.

Thank you, for articulating just some of your pain and how God is healing you through a tough time. Keep leaning on The Lord. He will hold you up.
