Sorry, my bad! I meant generational sins. Curses is really iffy topic, so let's not go there.

Generational sins first appear in Numbers.

The Lord is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, forgiving iniquity and transgression, but he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, to the third and the fourth generation.’" Numbers 14:18

It appears to me that it is not that the third and fourth generation are not necessarily sinning, but more that they are being punished, or more rightly, experiencing the consequences of the father's sins or iniquities. It also seems that idolatry is the sin that God is talking about here - the worst sin of all to God, under the Old Covenant.

"
You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me," Exodus 20:5

However, God relents and has a new promise in Deuteronomy.

"Fathers shall not be put to death because of their children, nor shall children be put to death because of their fathers. Each one shall be put to death for his own sin." Deut. 24:16

And again in Ezekiel, he points to the fact that we are each responsible to make our own decisions to sin, to follow God or not.

"The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not suffer for the iniquity of the father, nor the father suffer for the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself." Ezekiel 20:5

While we can learn bad world views from our parents, and breaking free of family sins can be difficult, it is by looking at Christ we are set free. We are not set free by digging up everything that went wrong in our families.

As for the internet and things being hard to explain, I really get that. It sounds to me, like you are talking about the pattern of repentance, set in the Old Testament, and carried through to the need to repent of our sins in the New Testament. Now that is an extremely valuable study! We can learn so much from that! I also know every time I read through the Old Testament, I am struck with the utter disobedience of the Israelites, despite God walking with them! I do question how God could have put up with it!

Of course, he did finally give up on Israel, and used the Assyrians to transport them away in 722 BC, never to return. He gave Judah a bit more time, because of the promise to David, but eventually, he took them into the Babylonian exile in 586 BC. But with Judah, he did preserve the line of David, and the Jews were brought back, and eventually Jesus was born. My favourite Bible story of all!

>>>The Lord is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, forgiving iniquity and transgression, but he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, to the third and the fourth generation.’" Numbers 14:18<<<<

this passage is showing the "digression" of holiness in mankind and the "longsuffering patience" of God.
Visiting the iniquity to the third and forth generation means that what you TEACH your children, they teach their children and on... and God will continue to DEAL WITH <visit> the error to correct it and JUDGE it.
Instruction was by ORAL tradition... we now have the preserved scripture so mankind has no excuse to not "receive" right instruction and ya can't really blame it on your father... or grandfather... or great grandfather.

Olerica,I want to thank you for recommending Breaking Free by Beth Moore. I researched it and realized that this is exactly the kind of study I was looking for. In this study it shows the parallel between the Israelites captivity and today's believers. It goes through the book of Isaiah. You get to see God's faithfulness. It also, shows you the freedom that we have in Christ. I feel like this goes along with what God has been showing me. I prayed and God just kept pointing to this study. I ordered it and everyone is excited about what God is going to do! Thanks again!

I would love to learn Women's Bible Study. We have these lessons and the books named Bible for Women. It teaches us how to be a good woman, a virtuous wife and mother. This study has benefited me a great deal. Woman' role is vital for one's family.

I too have started a women's Bible study group. It is very exciting. I do not follow any certain guideline I just allow GOD to have HIS way. It is once a week. I pray for GOD to Lead and Guide me during the week. We Pray, share what GOD has given us on the sermon we heard on Sunday, we share about our week, we do things together such as movies, activities, read certain books in unison and we bond. So much has been experienced while coming together and GOD has truly Blessed us.

One thing I can say is when you allow GOD in it will always work out. Enjoy :")

Blessings!!!!!!!

I think it is great you are teaching a Bible study. But I confess, I don't understand this concept of "women's" study.

We need to study the Bible. The application - or how it applies to our lives, comes out of the Bible itself.

I did the Navigator's book studies with a group of Ladies for about 4 years. These are books which go through the Bible, verse by verse and you have questions to answer, and you read the chapters and the guides explain the context, including history, parallel verses. I think we did John, Luke, Acts and Romans.

Again - study the Bible with a guide. Don't study the opinions and writings of people. Here is a link to some of their studies, which I see actually include "women's" studies.

All Bible Studies : Bible Studies : NavPress

And I confess, every time I do go through some kind of "women's study" and look at it, I just find too many theological and exegetical errors. JMHO
SO.....true....the Bible is from God, book studies are from people's thoughts...God's word is more accurate

I posted this on here and not the ladies forum because I figured I'd get more feedback. For the first time I am leading a women's bible study and it will be in my home. I am praying about which study to use. I believe I have an idea of the kind of study God wants us to do, but I'm not sure what that looks like. I know that there are some experienced CC people who have done this before and could be helpful to me.

Ladies can you share about a women's study that you really enjoyed or that really spoke to you? I'm asking for feedback from both those who have led or done a women's bible study. I've started my research and many of these studies are expensive and I don't want to buy one without enough information or a recommendation. At my church they offer an online library that I could get a study for free and I would only have to pay for the study guide. However, they don't offer everything... in fact they don't offer two of the studies I have started to consider. I'm hoping to come up with a list to pray over and see where God leads.

Please share your favorite study. Thanks.
what is wrong with just using the Bible? ....study the women of the Bible... our ladies need to learn lessons from the Biblical women, what to do and NOT to do.

I posted in this thread years ago, and I had never read a Beth Moore book or watched a video.

I had that unhappy occasion come to pass last spring in my small group. It was a new study, by Beth Moore, Ephesians I think. Without doubt, it was literally the worst, most incorrect, exegetically wrong, totally made up flight of imagination I have ever read. I said I would not watch it, but one old lady said she wanted it, so I left the group. That is how bad it was. I had some Beth Moore Bible studies someone gave me, and they were the same load of nonsense as the video.

We need to judge teaching, not by what ”we” get out of it, but rather is it what the Bible says, not a bunch of stories strung together with a few Bible verse out of context.

Again, I urge women to get an authentic Bible study and use it, rather than these highly marketed individuals, who have absolutely no Bible training at all. That is Beth Moore!
