David understood what it was to cry out to God.

He experienced highs and lows, to their extreme. He absolutely understood what it's to fall, in ways which surpass general sin. Murder, adultery and a complete abuse of authority and God given power are but a few to name.

David's sins had profound consequences, namely experiencing the utter devastation of losing a beloved child. And yet for all his misguided passion, David still got some things completely correct. God bein
g omniscient, and operating outside the confides of time, understood David's heart inside out. He knew David's sins before he committed them and still attributed him with having a heart after His own. What did David prize the most when he fell flat on his face, knowing that the blood of Uriah the Hittite and his very own child was on his hands?

Psalm 51 spells it out for us. In the midst of David's repentance, guilt and shame - he begged the Lord v11 "Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your Holy Spirit from me". Some things are more valuable than life itself. For in the presence of God is the joy of our salvation.
