I didn't read the comments :)

However, I spent 6 years in the Army between active and reserves and I loved it! As far as Christians and the military, I never heard anything negative. I grew in my faith at that point in my life tremendously. As a female my parents weren't thrilled but they supported me. Its definitely something I'm proud of. It builds character and I found a strength I didn't know I had. I made friends that became family I never would have found anywhere else.

Hope that helps.

I served in the military from 1995 to 1999, and there were parts of it that were very positive, but there were some negatives as well. In fact, I deal with the negatives to this day. PTSD is no joke.

The only advice I could really give is to try and find a military specialty that can translate into job skills once you get out.

Have to say I wish I wouldn't have gone back and read the comments lol.
But I will say I am greatful for the men and women, be them gay, straight and of all nationalities, races and religions that proudly fought next to me so you all could have the freedom to voice you ill opinions of the military.
And hate to bust anyone's bubble but I've never killed anyone especially a child and that's with 12+ months in a foreign war :)

Sincerely,
A Veteran

It's mostly airforce. Also, any wars in the middle east is purely for government agenda and not for freedom (not to you, to OP)

We need witnesses in the military as well as society in general. The military is an honorable way to serve the country and serve the Lord.

Listen I'm just going to say this and be done with it.

By fighting in American wars, you are not preserving American freedom. That's not how liberty works. Nobody has fought for my right to trash the military since WWII and not a single Vet will be able to accurately explain to you how any wars between the Vietnam War and the Syrian War relates to American freedom or liberty (logically anyway). It's a new ballgame for women as you wont be "serving with soldiers who fight", you will now be eligible to be in a combat role.

Simply put, if you join the military, you wont be someone fighting for freedom. You will simply be a hitman for hire. You will be killing people in THEIR country, to advance America's agenda to set up military bases around Iran and destabilize every Middle Eastern country that decided not to use the Central Banking System. There's nothing Godly about serving your country (as it is incredibly corrupt) and you will in no way be serving the Lord by doing so.

Don't swallow any of the nationalist propaganda that gets thrown at you. Govern yourself.

Sincerely,
Someone who cares.

Speaking from experience... stay away from the Marine Corps - REALLY consider the Air Force or the Coast Guard... that would satisfy your parents as well (maybe). Both of these are great choices ...

Do you know this firsthand based on your own military experience?

...:)

I thinks we both know the answer to that one...
You have the hawks and you have the doves. I'm not sure if he is a pacifist, or just naïve. Without the military the primary language would be Chinese. The secondary language would be Russian.

I have been thinking about joining the military, but I have a few factories that play into my decision. The biggest being that my parents do not support this choice at all. I don't want to disappoint them because I know things will be difficult between us if I make the decision to join. My next concern is I don't feel led by the Holy Ghost to join; I just personally want to go, and last is this decision going to affect my Christian walk? How does the military view Christians? Any advice appreciated.

From Christians I have talked to in the military and pastors I have talked to Obama is making it very hard on Christians in the military. If you do not feel God is leading you this way you need to wait on Him. Serving in the military is a very honorable thing to do but if God has another path for you you need to find what it is. I don't know how old you are but obviously you are an adult. What your parents think doesn't matter compared to what God wants of you. your path in life is now between you and God,not you and your parents. While they may give good advice you still must ask God what He wants of you.

Are you ok with killing kids purely for government agendas?

Totally what WWI WW2 was about, murdering kids for fun. Gov't loves to murder kids just for kicks. Anyone who has served in the military appreciates that comment Im sure. Lost their lives, were maimed, left their wives and children to go to another country and murder kids. Man when I look at the beliefs of the 20 somethings on this site it scares me.

Thank you for your service!! And thank you for fighting for our freedom while many sit comfortably at home criticizing those who have served. The fact that we are all using the internet now is because someone fought for that freedom, which they dont have in many countries.

I hate it when condescending pacifist try to make you feel guilty for being patriotic. The military isn't for everyone. Personally I would not want to join but I respect those who do as my son is a Marine. I understand that there will always be politicians who use the military as pawns for their own agenda but I still believe that the military is a noble profession

And we'd be using prayer mats and trying to figure which direction Mecca is.
