I have been away for a few weeks as I have been pretty busy. I am trying to figure out things in life still. I am not sure what direction God wants me to go in life. I think I know but I am unsure. I applied to go to a christian college to take nursing so I will see if I get in to the program.

I really am uncertain of how much of the bible applies to people today. Like it says woman shall not wear men's clothing does that really apply to woman today? I am not allowed to wear jeans and pants? it may be a dumb question the truth is I have heard pastors tell me that God is flexible with things and that it is okay to be my own individual and that is okay. I just was wondering how do I know what is acceptable and what is not. Do I follow the word of the Bible to the best of my abilities? There is scripture about so many things that we as people do today that the bible suggests we should not do Like watch t.v. and and play on our computers. etc.... I know if i just try my hardest to lead a life that God wants I will be fine I am just confused I guess.

My advice: Read your bible every day. Turn the tv off. Depart from the world and dont make posts about wearing pants for heavens sakes! I suspect you may be a instigating troll:)

no not a troll lol I really do not know I do try to read my bible everyday. I am just uncertain because of what the pastor said to me about God changing with times I guess is how I would put it.

"The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God" (Deuteronomy 22:5). This just means that the dress and other things appropriate to the one were not to be used by the other. 'That which pertaineth unto a man'; literally, the apparatus of a man, including, not dress merely, but implements, tools, weapons, and utensils. Whatever tends to obliterate the distinction between the sexes is licentiousness. One sex assuming the dress of the other has always been regarded as unnatural and indecent. It basically means that women should not try to take the part of a man, even in the way they dress, and vice versa, men should not take the role of a women, even in dress (Bruce Caitlyn Jenner). And by the way, men wore tunic like skirts in biblical times, and women long skirts, so modern day comparisons aren't really relevant to what men and women wear today, everyone wore skirts back then just as everyone wears pants today. So as long as women aren't wearing braless T-shirts with jock straps, and men aren't wearing tube tops with panties, we're okay :)... jmo

I don't know about you, Jennifer, but I find men's jeans and pants don't fit me at all. So I wear women's pants. Besides, the laws of Leviticus, or Deuteronomy were for the Jews. Jesus fulfilled the law when he died in the cross. We are following Jesus!

But the Old Testament is so valuable. It is the history of the Jews. It is the prophecies which Jesus fulfilled. It is also God's history, and how he reached down to humanity, and made a way for his Son, Jesus to be born and to die on the cross.

Try not to nail down every detail as you read the Bible. The Holy Spirit will eventually show how things fit together. I had lots of questions in the beginning, too! It was learning about a different culture and different times. I don't have all the answers, but God has reassured me over and over that his Word is true!

Start by by trusting God to show you the answers to your questions. I know that is one prayer he will answer!

Focus on Christ and delight in His love for you. Tune out those who would endeavor to bind you with rudiments of the world. Do all things as unto the Lord. Be modest and not emulating the world. Allow the Lord to give you peace.

Given the Bible doesn't talk about pants, TVs or computers. I recommend you read more Bible and listen a lot less to what people are telling you it talks about.

Everyone is a troll to you. Truthfully, I think you're a troll I've run into twice since I've been on this site. And both time that troll was kicked off for starting these kinds of rumors. (Since we're telling what we think about trolls.)

The general rule is that Christ supersedes much of the legalism of the OT.
As far as hair length, wearing sandals or not, how a woman should dress, etc., I would not be to concerned with emulating OT or even many NT examples. They were exclusive to that society at that time.
As long as one (I don't mean you, just using a extreme example) is not cross dressing; or putting out a lustful message in the way they present themselves, I am of the opinion to just do what good Christian common sense tells you in that area. The Spirit will never guide you wrong.

As I understand it.. In those Bible days, both women and men wore what we would call skirts.. so the command for a woman living in those days, not to wear mens clothes would make things difficult to avoid. The phrase of the woman to not wear a man's clothes is an idiom referring to the gender behaviorism. In other words a person is supposed to behave according to the gender assignment from birth. A girl is not to behave as a man, and a man is not to behave as a woman. In today's terms, a female believer in God is not to be a lesbian.

This is the way I see it. I always ask myself this, if Jesus were with me would I do this or do that and wear this or wear that? We should act as if Jesus was physically walking with us daily. I'm not saying Jesus isn't walking with so those that like to twist words around please don't.

So I think if you just put your life in that perspective you will do fine.

It's good to hear that you're taking steps in life to move on from the former situation. Praise the Lord for that! As for reading the Bible and understanding it, Angela53510 offers a good point... the Old Testament is worth reading, but it is not prescriptive for Christians in the same way it was for Jews. Try to focus on simply reading the Bible, rather than trying to conform every aspect of your life to it at this point. Remember that Jesus has set us free from legalistically following the OT Law, so look at what is in the OT as background material (for now). As you grasp the elements of truth, the OT will make more sense.

Keep reading, and keep seeking Jesus for direction, strength and peace. :)

Actually I dont think everyone is a troll. That really is a far fetched lie !! The string of thoughts she wrote led me to think she may be. I do think that you talk way too much though. Thats probably why your flesh led you to come in and bear false witness about me!!

I see the law as who God is and how far we fall short. Once we get to "there is no way in the world I can ever be like that," it places us right smack at God's feet to seek forgiveness and ability. If we can't, he can through us.

I wear men's tee shirts and men's sweatpants all the time. SOOOOOOOO much more comfortable than women's clothes.. :)
