Pride, anger, the need to feel in control, lack of humbleness, fear.
In other words the complete opposite of fruits of the spirit.

In some cases, it is a brain disorder, such as Borderline Personality Disorder. I don't understand (I doubt science understands) why something wrong in the brain causes someone to be so "stubborn" they can't admit any error on their part, but such is the case.

One can speculate that this might be the gray area between spiritual deception/oppression and neurological brain dysfunction. But how can that be measured?

It's a thinking error. Can be defensiveness or a compulsive desire to control. Probably based on the fear of losing face.

Ok so we know the root of the need to be right.... so what is the root of the need to be left?

I think the need to always be right is caused from being a victim of deception... "The great deception in fact"...Which caused shame, and then pride, fear, anger and whatever other emotion we have that makes us hurt others.
But then again I am rarely "right" in the first place. :p

Different thinking, right brain or left brain, don't even know. With a lot of understanding and hugs and listening it normalizes.

This was me, and it was one of several factors in the destruction of my marriage. As a kid, I did well in school, without much effort. However, I did not do well socially or athletically, so I got my affirmation for having the right answer. Although I slipped academically in university, I regained the success in later years, but still struggled in other areas. I was not affirmed for simply being'.

When I started dealing seriously with my shortcomings, I had to admit that I had been seriously wrong about some things. This, combined with a right understanding of God's love for me, helped break the 'need' to be right. Now I freely admit being wrong, or possibly wrong, for although I still strive to be right I won't always be.

Of course, that's just my story. Others may have different explanations for theirs.

I personally wouldn't need to be right so much if everyone else would just stop being wrong all the time. :)

mmmm insecurity??? Insecure people always wants to be "right".... they cannot accept the fact that they are wrong. And yes, Pride as well.

Some people just love problem solving, figuring out why and going from there because their nature is to analyze things.

Me, I have difficulty shutting the process off sometimes, but then again I get pushed a lot by ignorant people (gives me work to do, drives me forward. I can be somewhat of a perfectionist in this regard). Just trying to get to a place where I have peace... which can be like wading through a river of manure uphill. That's my life ^^

I heard that left handedness is a result of improper potty training. :)
I am ambidextrous. Hmmmm I wonder what Freud would say about that?
