I have been trying to figure a slew of things out in the last few weeks. I have been praying for God to put in the direction of his path for me but I feel Like I am not getting any real clues as to what to do. I have had a few dreams but not real specific where i can say for sure this is the rod i should go down.. How does God talk to me other then through scripture because I have been trying to read scripture based on the questions I seek answers for also and I am not having much luck there either....

Yes God can speak to us through dreams but with dreams one must have discernment as it's easy to confuse normal dreams with dreams from him, one can have a dream that is influenced by a movie or show they watch all the time or it can be affected by sleeping medication or from the kind of food we eat before we go to bed and sometimes we dream of what we think about often.

All you have to do is ask him to show you the way to go and he instantly sets into motion the path of your request even if at first we cannot see it. If we cannot see the way to go and if we cannot see the steps we are taking we can feel encouraged knowing that he does and is right behind us guiding us with his hands on our shoulders like how one guides a blind person and helps guided them from stumbling on a rock or crossing the street of on going traffic.

His voice is everywhere and comes in all kinds of forms he uses even the most unexpected things to speak teach and guide us from the words of the bible to something as simple as a song your listening to he will use anything and anyone to reach you. To learn to know his voice one must first and foremost learn to know him on a much deeper level the closer you become to him the deeper the intimacy with him the more you know him the more you hear and recognize his voice.

My advice to you is to continue to ask him to guide you to show you the path to go while seeking him out everyday and in any way you can, if your hunger and passion for him continues to grow then you will seek a deeper love with him and in doing so your hearts eyes will be solely set upon him even in your times of weakness and as long as your hearts eyes are set upon him then you will instinctively follow the path he has made for you

The Lord can comminicate to us through dreams, but I wouldn't spend a lot of time wondering if he is doing that. He has a way of talking to us regularly that we need to learn to recognize. Be in constant prayer (1 Thess 5:17) and you will start recognizing his voice.

I kinda doubt God speaks to use these days, not like in the O.T.

Not that long ago I did a lot of "dream work" in psych class in college.

Dreams are specific to the dreamer though Dr.s Jung and Freud did some dream analysis.

I was in psychotherapy for extreme p.t.s.d. and did some dream interpretation with a QUALIFIED
Doctor of Psychology and some did have significance.

Dreams CAN have significance IF they have certain components.

Key words are QUALIFIED shrink, repeating theme, and components significant to the dreamer.

Try this -- Read scripture as if it is about God and what he wants. (It is, so it ought to work better.)

It's certainly one way He communicates with me. But, I usually do a lot of thinking about the dreams before I understand some of them.

One of the most common responses to hearing from God is to decide we haven't.

Besides dreams, God speaks to me through the wise counsel of holy people He sends into my life whose words encourage me to walk the path He places in my heart to tread.

If your dreams line up with scripture they may be of some value. Scripture is the one element that will never change nor will it ever lead you in the wrong path.

Sometimes reading scripture and praying leads to instant answers and sometimes it does not. Time spent waiting on God is never time lost. Tribulation works patience. Very difficult but necessary lesson in the Christian walk.

'Even' Pharaoh and Nebuchadnezzar knew when a dream was important enough to recall. When God
gives you a dream He wants you to understand, you will pursue it.
The wonderful thing about Pharaoh's dream was that it saved nations from starvation and led to
God's being glorified. With Nebuchadnezzar, astrology and sorcery were shown to be false theology,
while Daniel was given the gift to recall for the King his own dream. A lesson for the ages. King Saul
relied upon a sorceress for understanding when he was so far gone that not even David's music could
heal him, and drive devils away any longer. Saul fled until his heart was no longer in tune. He grieved
away the Holy Spirit. Stay with God. He does not forsake, nor abandon, nor disappoint.

God bless your listening and your desire to do what is good. The Lord is wise enough to speak through Scripture and dreams and He is wise enough to guide you to the answers-- without your full comprehension. Trust and obey, lean on the Provision of God and not your figuring it out. I don't have your answers, though I do echo your questions. Sing praise and cry to the Lord, He hears you-- even if you don't sense it.

I struggle with what path to take and what to do alot. I want so desperately to do the will of God that I dont what to make a mistake. Especially with big decisions like choosing a wife or something. I always want clear signs and direction. Always trying to find out the will of God for my life is not trusting in God. I feel I need to know where he is going to take me instead of getting up and trusting in Him. So, study his word to know him. Learn his charcter and commands, so when certain situations arise you will know and feel what you need to do. If you choose something wrong after you have done this, it doesnt me you didnt do Gods will. Your wrong is often turned into something for your good. Kinda like Job, he did nothing wrong to deserve his trials, but through it he trusted God. So dont look for direct answers, just continue obeying His commandments in everything you do. If a sign is needed he will provide it. He doesn't withhold things that are for our good. Psalms 84:11
