When ourselves or someone else is in a difficult situation, we just pray and think that God will do the thing for us and we just have to sit back and relax. But I think that's not the philosophy Jesus taught us.
Think about it. If Jesus had just prayed for the salvation of the mankind, wouldn't had they been saved. Why he chose to go through an actual sacrifice?

Revelation 21

5
And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. 6And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. 7He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. 8But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

The 2nd death is the Refining Lake Of Fire, to burn off what was not built by Christ..
1 Cor 3
10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. 11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. 14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

Ezekiel 37:11-13
11 Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They indeed say, ‘Our bones are dry, our hope is lost, and we ourselves are cut off!’ 12 Therefore prophesy and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, O My people, I will open your graves and cause you to come up from your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel’. 13 Then you shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O My people, and brought you up from your graves.

Obviously not speaking of those who "died in Christ" because, THEN you shall know... not before.

This is a process but the end game is Gods Will. NOT WILLING THAT ANY PERISH, His sacrifice was showing us that SIN=DEATH, if He did not go through with the sacrifice then He could not PROVE the resurrection of ALL.

Very simple explanation, but I wish you may glean a better understanding if it is Gods Will for you in this age.

...also, we are to pray according to Gods Will. If it is His Will that which you pray, it will be done. Otherwise, nope!

Wishful thinking isn't a substitute for action. There are some things we have no control over, though.

we will sacrifice for others, but The Holy Spirit will always be our confirmation
of and for righteousness...

Jesus exemplified how to love and lived out that love for others. He sought the Father's will, instead of giving into temptation. He turned down a self-promoting crown to remain faithful to God's timing (and plan). All the while, he worked to help the forgotten and those who had no hope. Ultimately, he forgave his persecutors with the love of God. (And Jesus died for you and me.) Then he got up! :) And he still denied himself the fullness of heaven to encourage the unfaithful and doubting. And then he ascended.

How cool is that?!

Now...
We are not expected to go to the cross of Calvary to save the world. Jesus did that.
But we are to help one another with the the various burdens we carry.
Prayer is needed... so are the answers to it.
All of the time, God is the answer.
Much of the time, he includes us.

well, I don't think that and I am sure many many other believers do not think we just pray and think it's a done deal

on the more serious side of things though, you state Jesus CHOSE to go through an actual sacrifice

two things regarding that

1. it was God's plan to redeem mankind and Jesus obeyed God...it was not something He chose to do..what He chose to do, was to obey God...if you read of Jesus prayer in Gethsemane, you will find that Jesus actually said that if possible, He preferred not to be the sacrifice...and then He went on to say, but God's will be done and not His

I hope you see the difference there because basically, God asks the same of us...He asks we do His will and not ours

2. it is God's will that everyone be saved, but not everyone will be saved

we are told to 'continue' in prayer...that is until we receive an answer...there are different kinds of prayer

it's all in the Bible
